- This report was developed to support an analysis by the European Commission of the effectiveness of the "ecopoints" system for limiting the environmental impact of heavy-duty vehicles transiting through Austria. The analysis culminated in a communication issued by the Commission in February 2001. The report takes stock of the environmental pressures that growing freight transport by road is exerting on the environment in the EU and investigates the specific problems of traffic impacts in sensitive mountain areas. |
