... and what I didn't learn. (Dec 31 2002 21:44 GMT) - I had planned to get all of these out before leaving for xmas break, but that to just didn't work out. So, from a laptop in the basement of my sister's house comes part five... As a final entry to the year in review, I picked out the biggest thing that I *didn't* do this year. A nice year end regret, or at least something to think about for next year. I've never executed true "test first design" and hardcore unit testing concepts. |

I went skating today, with ... (Dec 31 2002 21:28 GMT) - I went skating today, with Nicky, Alex & Abby and Lar & Georgia. First time in about 25 years. I'm no good (never was) but it was fun and feels like another little piece of being back in Canada. |

Where were you? (Dec 31 2002 21:28 GMT) - Roughly three quarters of a century ago, in the 1920s, the Jewish community was very powerful in Europe. In possession of key positions in the worlds of financing and culture, one would easier find a Jewish person in charge in a company than amongst the common working folk. My grandmother reminded me of that recently, in a debate on the morning of second Christmas Day. In one of her early jobs, she was working for a Jewish woman she described as severly "arrogant". |
