- A good friend of mine, whom I respect, told a story at lunch today about a doctor who makes $160K per year, pays malpractice insurance of $75K, and income taxes of $65K. With all due respect, that doesn't add up. Neither does the argument that "tort reform" is to protect doctors. Doctors could decrease their medical malpractice premiums if they policed their profession better and got rid of the bad doctors that damage patients through their carelessness. As to the corporations, we must somehow protect ourselves as consumers against the evasion of responsibility that is routinely engaged in by workers in corporations who make decisions that hurt their customers. |
