RPM Database Crash (Feb 24 2003 23:45 GMT) - It was an interesting weekend. I planned on updating the RPM packages on the system over the weekend using Red-Carpet. However, it indicated there weren't any packages to update, which I knew was wrong. I did some checking and it appeared that my RPM database was corrupted. The solution to that seemed to be running rpm --rebuilddb. |

"Saccharin was discovered in 1879 ... (Feb 24 2003 23:37 GMT) - "Saccharin was discovered in 1879 when a research fellow at Johns Hopkins University found his bread extra sweet one night and figured that something from the lab must have followed him home. Incredibly, he set about to tasting nearly everything in his lab - and lived to find o-benzoic sulfimide - saccharin by any other name. Chance not only favors the trained mind, but in this case, it favored a man brave enough to lick everything in sight till he could trace the source of his discovery." -- The art of innovation, p. 150 |

Writing for Google (Feb 24 2003 23:36 GMT) - When writing a website the writer needs to be focused on the reader; that is write for readers. Even though human readers are those who are going to be active and do something about your site, one of your primary readers is Googlebot. Writers need to be aware that building information has an effect on your site and also any site to which you create links within that information. The web is a connected world and what you do on your site may greatly affect not only your position in search engine results, but also other people's position and how Google perceives their web pages. |

Contact Sheet View Enhances Gallery (Feb 24 2003 23:17 GMT) - [img] I have originally published the activeUsers Gallery - an exhibition of activeRenderer at work - in outline style. This was a good way of conveying detailed information about each featured screenshot, while demonstrating activeRenderer's picture and html link inclusions. But it failed to provide a quick visual outlook of the diversity of uses and styles achieved by activeRenderer users. So I've tried to remember past experiences of image flow presentation, and came up with an alternate contact sheet view for the gallery. |

MAKE a FORTUNE selling the detritus of your YOUTH on EBAY (Feb 24 2003 23:07 GMT) - Mike IMed me, to let me know that he'd sold our Cosmic Encounter set on eBay. This made me unaccountably sad. I haven't played the game for many years; I rarely play board games any more and when I do it's probably going to be Sorry! It was clearly Mike's... |

How moviegoing has changed (Feb 24 2003 23:07 GMT) - The Globe And Mail: This could never pass for a masterpiece theatre. Probably everyone knows how moviegoing has drastically changed over the past five to ten years. Like David MacFarlane, I used to enjoy going to the movies. Now I dread it. |
