Taco HTML (Feb 28 2003 04:56 GMT) - Taco HTML With the demise of BBEdit Lite, I'm looking for other free or under $20.00 basic HTML editors I can use with students. Taco HTML, from Taco Software is a free OS X HTML Editor. It has syntax coloring, an attractive, fairly self explanatory interface (a good thing, since there's no built in Help). The basic HTML tags (paragraph, link, bold, italic, rules,line breaks, super and sub scipt, strikethrough) are available from a pop down "Quick Insert" menu. |

joel on tfd (Feb 28 2003 04:50 GMT) - Interesting comment from the Joel on Software forums by... well, Joel: "If the code is straight up symbolic processing, the kinds of things people do with smalltalk, it's not so hard to write tests... just create a few input strings and compare them to the output strings. The trouble is when you're testing a GUI, or a web page, or any kind of complicated system involving multiple moving parts. |

420 Redux (Feb 28 2003 04:33 GMT) - As I mentioned earlier, CNET and a few others are reporting on the seizure of a number of domain names by US law enforcement agencies like the DEA. As usual, the more mainstream press gets the story, well, just plain wrong. I'm not sure why they did this, but CNET mixed at least two stories together. The first, concerns the seizure of the ISONews website after the plaintiff had already entered a guilty plea. No big deal here. |

- Morning Plaza We talked about giving directions today and people had a little bit of trouble giving directions for Obihiro. The homework for next should help you get a better feeling for downtown. I was surprised how quickly some people said no when I asked if they had a good sense of direction. I feel I have pretty good sense of direction and I seldom get lost, but when I do it is usually bad. The homework for next week is to pick three places on the north side of the station and think how you would give directions to get there from the station. |
