Brugge-Brussels-London-Bath (Mar 17 2003 23:59 GMT)

- We were a little subdued this morning since we were both ill during the night before (Claire more so than I) and the long train journey back was looming ahead of us. We went on a boat trip around some of the canals of Brugge, which was quite cool but we'd seen almost all of it on our travels yesterday. We nipped into the Church of Our Lady to see the Michaelangelo statue in there, but we failed to be moved by it; just one statue amongst many. The train journey was uneventful although I did get to see the Atomium on the way into Brussels, something I'd hoped to see.

StarTribune.com: Metris tries to rebuild its house of cards (Mar 17 2003 23:55 GMT)

- Julie Forster reports from Minneapolis on Metris. The company finds itself in this precarious position partly because of the economy but also because of a decision that was made in 2001 to extend the credit limits of the company's most profitable customers. Just after the credit limits were extended, other lenders, including Target and Sears, came out with their own credit cards and aggressively pursued customers, many of whom added debt from their new cards in addition to expanding their Metris balances. Then came the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001, and the sudden contraction of the economy, a phenomenon that always hits highly indebted borrowers hardest.

Joy... (Mar 17 2003 23:36 GMT)

- Well, things are going along swimmingly. I've figured out the whole MT->PHP->Smarty thing (and it's kinda cool). Hopefully fairly soon here I'll have a updated version of this site available. I'm switching over so my whole website is driven by MT (and with a MySQL backend too). It's getting annoying.
