Blogs need "Mark as Read" (Mar 17 2003 01:31 GMT) - As I mentioned a while back, I set my very tall little brother up with a travelblog so that he and his girlfriend could easily keep in touch with everyone back home during their one year trip to Europe and Asia. Everybody here love it and they are finding it pretty cool. They blog when they get a chance at whatever Internet cafe they happen to come across. They are on the clock which means that they don't have a lot of time to mess around. Their standard drill is log in read the latest comments, post an update and hope that the clock doesn't run out in the meantime. |

Mixing Static and Dynamic IPs (Mar 17 2003 01:01 GMT) - Until recently, I had a large block of static IP addresses for my home network, which made server setups easy. But I also had fairly low upstream DSL speeds. In order to get faster upstream, I switched providers to Speakeasy. So far I'm very impressed with their service -- no limits on reasonable connection sharing within households, and no limits on what kinds of servers you can run. The 768kbps upstream I purchased is going to be perfect for moderate domain hosting from home. |
