I'm back (Mar 18 2003 11:57 GMT) - If you can read this then it means my site is back. It'll go down again in a few days for a few more minor changes, and then it'll be all ready for The Big Move. I'm thinking about doing a slight redesign at the same time, and maybe even ditching Radio. |

aspnet_regiis /i (Mar 18 2003 11:56 GMT) - i've had several people ask me about this and have run into it myself, so it seems to be occurring frequently enough *in the wild* to merit a post here. if you've installed the .net framework sdk and iis, but iis doesn't seem to be recognizing the .aspx entension (most likely because you installed iis after .net framework as with a new PC) simply open a command window and type aspnet_regiis /i. |

More on "Mark as Read" (Mar 18 2003 11:22 GMT) - I've been thinking more about "mark as read". I'd like this to be really simple from a readers perspective. There are primitives and cues that already exist that would make it easier to for users to explicitly indicate what they have already read and what they haven't. Note that this is different that an "already visited" cue in a link - "mark as read" must be an explicit function - perhaps even one that can be reversed by fickle readers. |

Innovative Drug Treatment Alternative To ... (Mar 18 2003 11:17 GMT) - Innovative Drug Treatment Alternative To Prison Program Reduces Crime, Prison Costs Press release from the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA) - "Drug-addicted, non-violent felony offenders with five prior drug arrests and an average of four years behind bars achieved significantly lower recidivism rates and higher employment rates through a drug treatment program than comparable offenders who were sent to prison, according to findings published in the White Paper, Crossing the Bridge: An Evaluation of the Drug Treatment Alternative-to-Prison (DTAP) Program, released today by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University. These results were achieved at about half the cost of incarceration, the CASA evaluation found. The five-year evaluation was funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse."
