Lazy Grilled Chicken (Mar 22 2003 23:59 GMT) - 'Twas a lazy Saturday for us. Robin and our daughter went to the Timonium Dinner Theatre's production of Cinderella this afternoon. "If the goal of judging ... (Mar 22 2003 23:58 GMT) - "If the goal of judging individuals by the content of their character [rather than letting stereotypes pervasively color our judgments] is one that this and other societies wish to take seriously, this body of social psychological research suggests two radical strategies. First, create the social conditions that allow new associations and new learning about social groups that blur the bright line that demarcates social groups. Second, generate individual and group-based strategies for compensation in conscious recognition of the stark and pervasive unconscious biases that operate in social judgment." -- Banaji, Lemm, & Carpenter (2001)yeah. I like the notion of a facilitative approach to stereotype reduction very much. |

If you haven't gone into preferences and set control-click to open in a new tab, do it now. If you aren't using Mozilla to browse with tabs, get it now. However, it's only mostly implemented in Mozilla with several glaring inconsistencies. |

VFP runs on Linux (Mar 22 2003 23:30 GMT) - Paul McNett has been leading the charge to get VFP working on Linux. Here's his website, and here's an article he recently published in FoxTalk. There are still some limitations, like the locking issues in the last post, but there are work-arounds to those, too (using client-server data rather than local files), but the Wine project is still in alpha and the progress is exciting. Click the little picture on the right for a large (1600x1200, 320kb) screen shot of VFP running on the Linux desktop. |
