Have They No Shame? (Mar 31 2003 15:52 GMT) - QUOTE OF THE DAY All the euphemisms of 21st century combat cannot hide the ancient reality of war. In the end, it is human beings killing other human beings. In the end, it is a father clutching a photograph of a now-dead Marine, sending a heart-chilling message to President Bush to look hard at the image of "my only son." |

Sina, Sohu or Netease? (Mar 31 2003 15:50 GMT) - I received an email from my dear reader today. Per his/her permission, I posted the questions here and I'd like to share my answers with you. I am a small volume amateur stock investor. You seem to be very knowledgeable on issues regarding SMS and the internet. I own a few shares of SINA. |

The Human Within I should ... (Mar 31 2003 15:50 GMT) - The Human Within I should be talking about politics right now, or at least the world situation. The Japanese government is giving me just about as much good material as their US counterparts. And Japanese culture is always interesting to discuss. I could also talk about my seeming inability to master or even to get on with the shoe dance. Really, the list of topics is nearly inexhaustible. |

DUBIOUS NEWS (Mar 31 2003 15:44 GMT) - I've recently reported (here and here ) the most egregious examples of Western war propaganda that were picked up by the mainstream media and run as 'fact', only to be debunked as wild exaggerations or complete fabrications a few hours or days later. Looking at them again, I notice that quite a few of these received first mention or particular prominence in certain publications. To help bloggers more easily filter news from nonsense, I now present: The Dubious News: Publications Not To Be Trusted Publications of Sun Myung Moon: |

Canadians don't DESERVE our printers (Mar 31 2003 15:42 GMT) - Found this via Wil Wheaton. Didn't realize my favorite comic has a website. Found this one that I missed. From Florence (Mar 31 2003 15:40 GMT) - Finally found both time and a Net connection to update my blog! I'm in a Net cafe in Florence, two blocks from the Duomo, this big hunk of bricks with some art 'n' stuff inside it. It's been a great trip, but I'll spare you the details because I'm blogging it for the Boston Globe somewhere around here I had dinner with Paolo and Monica Valdemarin in Venice, along with the other six members of my family traveling together. Paolo and I know each other through our weblogs and decided to meet in person. (We got a little encouragement from... |

Salt Lake City Joins Utopia (Mar 31 2003 15:38 GMT) - Salt Lake City has elected to join 17 other Utah cities in UTOPIA, the fiber to the home (FTTH) project that promises to provide high speed internet, data, voice, and video services to over 750,000 Utah residents. Utopia is currently preparing bonds for sale and hopes to begin construction this summer. The bonds will be revenue bonds, not general obligation, which means that they are not backed by taxes. Good for the taxpayer, but harder to sell. I think Utopia is a grand experiment and I'm anxious to see how it progresses. |

Commercial databases, such as credit card records, grocery purchases and hotel bills, are the latest pool of information the government says it has a right to collect. Merchants and lenders have been doing it for years. [Wired News] |
