Running as Admin (Mar 31 2003 15:13 GMT) - Over the weekend, I blogged about a variety of topics, including the practice of running as admin in one's day-to-day work, a practice which I had to admit I still was guilty of (with the exception of my development work). I've since pulled my regular login from the Administrators group, and while the process hasn't been painless, it's not been painfull either. Here are some of the things I've run into: Installing the samples for the latest revision of my book requires admin rights (something I've discussed with my publisher in hopes of eventually resolving). Modifying the options for Norton Antivirus requires administrator rights (why that should be, I'm baffled, unless it's installed by an administrator who chooses to lock it down... |

TPB, Esq. comments on Sunda ... Saturday Scruples (Mar 31 2003 15:09 GMT) - As for question 3, dealers are usually pretty friendly, but there's no way in hell they'd ever be able to give you an (unlawful/unfair) edge. Casinos have better surveillance than the US Dept. of Prisons. |

Lee Child: Persuader (Mar 31 2003 15:03 GMT) - This latest Jack Reacher novel has all the fast-paced action that we expect from Lee Child. The characters are all well-developed and believable with Lee's trademark strong women adding special dynamics to this story. Combined with an unusually twisted plot, it is probably one of Lee's best books yet. |

Reflection (Mar 31 2003 15:02 GMT) - Walked up to my mirror this morning, starred deeply into my blue eyes. Inside them I saw the spherically mapped reflection of my mirror again, with a dark silhouette of my head. I wondered if, my vision were better, would I be able to see a small mirror in them, again, and my head, again, and a mirror, stretched into infinity. In programming it's known as recursion, where you basically solve a problem by breaking it into smaller pieces and running them through the same functional piece of code. The code calls itself over and over as incestuous as that sounds. |
