Supreme Court Rejects Iran Terrorism ... (Mar 31 2003 19:55 GMT) - Supreme Court Rejects Iran Terrorism Case (AP). The Supreme Court rejected an appeal Monday from a man trying to hold Iran accountable for the killing of his daughter in a Middle East terror bombing. The court did not comment in turning down Stephen Flatow, who won a $247.5 million verdict against Iran, but has been unable to collect most of the money. |

Helpline Comment (21257) (Mar 31 2003 19:51 GMT) - yippee!! Ive managed to buy a cheap stripped Compaq LTE5100 laptop off ebay to fix up mine, this one I bought has a working screen and motherboard, with most of the other bits missing, so I can use the parts from my LTE with the busted screen and iffy motherboard. I dont have a CD drive for this yet, LTE parts are plentiful on ebay, apart from the CD drives which are rather pricey, but I can probably live with out it, I was wondering, is it possible to make a custom boot floppy that will load up all essential system files with a custom version of laplink (or similar) and therefore copy the WIN95 folder off another machine by parallel port cable?? |

'Superhacker' moved to San Jose (Mar 31 2003 19:37 GMT) - Accused superhacker Jerome Heckenkamp, accused of sophisticated hack attacks against telecom equipment-maker Qualcomm, has received approval to have his trial on the 10 counts for the attack to o be moved from San Diego to San Jose, "where Heckenkamp is already facing a weightier indictment accusing him of penetrating computers belonging to Lycos, Exodus Communications, Juniper Networks and Cygnus Support Solutions, and defacing online auction site eBay under the hacker handle 'MagicFX.'" Why the hacker would want the trials in the same place, I have no idea, clearly a tactic I am not familiar with, but the judge does admit he will likely have both trials included into one. Interview / Vicious circles closing in: Thomas von der Osten-Sacken (Mar 31 2003 19:37 GMT) - What kind of influence does Saddam have in the Arab street, and what kind of affect could it have to topple him? The most regressive and dangerous elements in the Arab and Islamic world depend on Saddam Hussein. Really toppling Saddam Hussein means uprooting the Ba'ath regime, with the help of the Iraqi people. This would give the final blow to pan-Arabism in the Middle East. Syria and a lot of very radical factions in Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt and the Gulf states would be affected. |

Old school hackers condemn hacks (Mar 31 2003 19:35 GMT) - In a report today that was likely in response to an earlier piece, Wired told the story of old school hacker's, those who believe in the ideal of freedom, who believe that true hackers would never have done what was attributed to hackers in the earlier piece, more specifically bringing down the english language site for the Al-Jazeera TV network located in the middle east. I have given up on correcting the difference between hacking and cracking, hackers, cracks and skript kiddies. The hackers believe censorship is bad, and freedom is good. The attackers of that site clearly hold neither of these ideals as a basis. Comments (0) |

Sony Ericsson Roundup (Mar 31 2003 19:33 GMT) - A few bits of news concerning Sony Ericsson today. First, there is a new version of "PC Suite" [direct download link] which is the application for Windows that syncs Sony Ericsson phones with the computer. Mac users should use Apple's iSync which has not received an update lately (our contacts say it's coming soon). The second bit of news are two 3rd party API's for the P800 that let developers control the camera and vibration respectively. Evidently, with the official API developers couldn't touch these two very important elements of the phone. |
