Application and Program Guidelines -- New Media Research Networks Fund (Mar 31 2003 23:39 GMT) - Under this fund, a group of public - and private - sector partners who meet the applicant eligibility criteria will organize themselves into a network on a regional basis so that researchers can share knowledge, resources and facilities. The research network will develop a research program centred around a particular theme which pertains to innovation relevant to new media or digital content, determine the two to three associated research projects, and describe how this research will contribute to the objectives of the fund. While the fund will primarily focus on applied research (in areas such as speech interfaces, advanced interface design, interactive cinema, broadcasting to diverse devices, and technolinguistic tools), it is recognized that proposals could logically include some level of basic research. |

You're All Tinfoil (Mar 31 2003 23:39 GMT) - Telemarketers plagued us. On one lousy night of TV, I got a call from one of my anonymous friends. It hit me: I get my TV entertainment piped in via coaxial cable, maybe this is just another form of piped-in amusement. I decided to play "Confuse The TeleMarketer. |

Punk Rock and programming (Mar 31 2003 23:35 GMT) - The Buzzcocks (untitled). The Buzzcocks new album shows that Pete Shelley and Steve Diggle can still write immensely memorable punk rock tunes. [Salon.com] If the Buzzcocks' new CD sounds instantly familiar that's because legions of loud, fast, snotty bands have co-opted the band's signature punk rock style since the late 1970s. But now, 24 years after the band's best-known U. |

Another perspective...A friend of mine ... (Mar 31 2003 23:34 GMT) - Another perspective...A friend of mine (thanks Paul) sent me this link to Apostablog. A lot of links, comments, and British perspective on the war in Iraq.Another comment on the moron De Genova - he says that "Americans who call themselves patriots are imperialist white supremacists". I think a Black American who supports the war would find that a rather strange statement. |

Plans Under Way for Christianizing the Enemy (Mar 31 2003 23:31 GMT) - File this under "you have got to be kidding": Two leading evangelical Christian missionary organizations said Tuesday that they have teams of workers poised to enter Iraq to address the physical and spiritual needs of a large Muslim population. The Southern Baptist Convention, the country's largest Protestant denomination, and the Rev. Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse said workers are near the Iraq border in Jordan and are ready to go in as soon as it is safe. The relief and missionary work is certain to be closely watched because both Graham and the Southern Baptist Convention have been at the heart of controversial evangelical denunciations of Islam, the world's second largest religion. |

Possible Al Qaeda Base Destroyed in Iraq (Mar 31 2003 23:29 GMT) - "The site in northeast Iraq could have been a training ground and may have produced the lethal poison ricin that was found in a London flat in January" This is a strange story! Only tiny amounts of ricin were found in London, and ricin can be made in this country out of castor beans. "Some of the bodies that have been recovered, enemy bodies that have been recovered up there, are not Iraqis, they're not Iranians. |
