That's NOT the Way it is (Apr 10 2003 14:59 GMT) - Walter Cronkite, retired CBS anchor, said Tuesday at Elon University "We should not be in Iraq without United Nations support." Thank goodness the United States has the will and ability to do what is right in Iraq. If we look arrogant doing it, so what? It's like Newt Gingrich said yesterday on Fox News - we don't need and shouldn't expect other countries to love us. They just need to respect us.... |

Airplane .NET (Apr 10 2003 14:56 GMT) - Mike Sax writes: A team at Cornell University is flying unmanned airplanes using Embedded XP, C#, and components from our Sax.net Connected Framework. All the navigational sensors and controls connect to an array of serial ports. While debugging the flight control algorithms, the software interfaces with Microsoft Flight Simulator, for obvious reasons. |

Getting Printer Bounds (Apr 10 2003 14:54 GMT) - About 9 months ago, I was working on a project that had to print high quality maps on an 11x17 printer. One of the many problems we ran into was figuring out how to accruately determine the printer margins for the selected printer. We were working in .NET and it didn't seem possible. We did eventually figure it out, but boy a sure wish this article had existed then. |

Cloning the Banteng (Apr 10 2003 14:53 GMT) - I've commented on cloning before: here, here, and here. Now, yesterday, I heard about the successful cloning of a banteng, a cattle-like animal, from the remains of an animal dead for 23 years. That's pretty... |

Via Daily Kos: "maybe we ... (Apr 10 2003 14:52 GMT) - Via Daily Kos: "maybe we ought to bring Saddam to Brooklyn, because then they can attack Brooklyn and give them healthcare." This raises a number of really good issues, chief among them, where the hell are we getting the money to attack and rebuild Iraq when our own country continues to slide deeper into fiscal irresponsibility. Unemployment continues to increase, millions of us have no adequate healthcare and we have an idiot in the White House who thinks that tax cuts for corporations and those holding dividend-paying stocks are the way to stimulate the economy. There's a huge need in Iraq but frankly, there's a collosal need here as well. |

Women and peace (Apr 10 2003 14:51 GMT) - I got right mad at Kalilily a few days ago when she restated the old women-are-inherently-peaceful bit. Why do I, personally, hate that bit so much? Well, because the reasons adduced for women’s supposed peacefulness spring straight from Mommitude. Having gone well out of my way to avoid becoming a... |

More on BCL type names (Apr 10 2003 14:51 GMT) - I'm not adding anything to the "BCL vs primitives" naming discussion - everything has already been discussed. I just wanted to give a real-world example of how this effected a project I'm working on: We were porting business logic code from VB6 to VB.NET, and the developer (wasn't me) couldn't get some of the Win32 API calls to work. |

Do Not Forget (Apr 10 2003 14:49 GMT) - The liberal media was horribly wrong about Iraq until the very end. They were wrong about analyzing its negative consequences pre-war. And they were wrong until the day Baghdad fell and the streets erupted in celebration. Read this hilarious synopsis of extensive quotes from liberal media figures over the past two weeks. In Afghanistan the entire liberal media had already labelled it a quagmire until Kabul "shockingly" fell. |
