Pyramid Asks, What Happens When ... (Apr 11 2003 01:59 GMT) - Pyramid Asks, What Happens When Pricing Drops?. John Yunker of Pyramid Research notes that even optimistic projections of venue revenue today for hot spots relies on pricing staying constant over time: The latest free Wi-Fi newsletter from Pyramid covers some of the latest news, but leads off with Yunker's analysis of dropping prices from the venue's standpoint. He says, Current revenue share models value the network far greater than the location. I say, the hot spot business is about real estate and software, not about the technology.... |

I (Don't!!) Want My Iraq TV (Apr 11 2003 01:57 GMT) - Last night on CBS TV's 60 Minutes II, they aired what Iraqi TV had been showing for most of the previous day (as of yesterday, it was mentioned, Iraq TV had not been broadcast). The broadcasts consisted of various singers, in various locations, singing songs of praise to - you guessed it- Saddam Hussein. Cruel dictator indeed. The Iraqis got only 4 channels to begin with, were allowed no satellite dishes, and then had to listen to a bunch of "Robert Goulet look-alikes," as 60 Minutes II put it, sing songs about Saddam. |

The "Golden Hammer" anti-pattern strikes again, with echoes... (Apr 11 2003 01:56 GMT) - Don XML - in his From The What Were They Thinking Department post - wrote about what a poor idea Fawcette's Enterprise Architect Summit was. Robert Scoble and bunch of other "MS'ers" (apparently, .NET developers) climbed on saying yeah, how can it possibly compete with the PDC, they're idiots, won't they ever learn, blah, blah, blah. Really? Do these "MS'ers" seriously believe that someone interested in (guessing here) "De-compiling MSIL" would also be interested in Fawcette's "Best Practice: |

Toronto (Apr 11 2003 01:54 GMT) - I'm at the Holiday Inn, in Toronto right across from the airport. Much to my surprise they have free wifi here, very nice. The restaurant here is called the Metro Bar & Grill, i think. I just had the Sea Bass and it was excellent, possibly the best I've ever had. There are a few things that i've not noticed about Canada in my previous trips here. |

The Core producer defends his craptastic science (Apr 11 2003 01:52 GMT) - Oh, this is delightful. A couple of days ago, I posted about the singularly awful science errors in the sci-fi movie The Core. Apparently, the film's science has been so viciously lambasted that the producer recently freaked out -- and wrote a letter to the North County Times, attacking their review of The Core, and defending his creation. To quote, in part: When I read that "The Core" suffers from "a preposterous plot, cliched characters, and silly special effects," I realized Pack didn't do his homework. |
