Kings 104, Lakers 117 (Apr 11 2003 04:58 GMT) - The Lakers all showed up tonight, with Kobe scoring 34, Shaq rebounding 16, Fisher assisting 8 along with good three-point shooting, Madsen and Horry playing defense on Webber, and the team beating Sacramento to even the season series, and make it 7 wins in a row and 9 out of 10 with 3 to go in the regular season. All those fans who left in December, when the Lakers were well under .500, shouldn't be allowed to watch the playoffs. These sports posts were delayed by my digging up the coupon and the CRV tax numbers. |

Dodgers 1, San Francisco 2 (Apr 11 2003 04:57 GMT) - I could only see half of this game becuase of a triple overtime hockey game. I don't mind, though, because the Dodgers utterly let down Hideo Nomo, who got the loss because the Dodgers' offense continues to play hide-and-seek. One of the reasons that offense is down is because Marquis Grissom is now a Giant, and he homered to make the difference in the game. |

'Wayback Machine' Stars at Sex ... (Apr 11 2003 04:55 GMT) - 'Wayback Machine' Stars at Sex Court Trial, by Anthony M. DeStefano, New York Newsday. The existence of the monster "Wayback Machine" -- a service with a massive computer capacity of over 100 terabtyes -- was disclosed to jurors in federal court in the suit brought by Playboy Enterprises against a Web enterpreneur Mario Cavalluzzo over use of the name "Sex Court." Cavalluzzo's attorney John Bostany seemed stunned by the revelation about the huge archive as he cross- examined a Playboy official. Judge Raymond Dearie also quipped that it sounded like something from the film "Back to the Future. |

Pepsi by the bottle, please (Apr 11 2003 04:51 GMT) - OK,. let's talk sale prices. I have a coupon here offering me 2 12-packs of 12-ounce cans for ($4 + CRV) + tax, or 4 2-liter bottles for ($4 + CRV) + tax. California Redemption Value is a a social engineering tax attempting to deceive the public into thinking recycling is hugely profitable, because the tax is refundable if you recycle the cans (which is a deception because in most jurisdictions it ends up being the government-mandated trash company that gets the payoff). CRV is 2. |

I'm not a misogynist, but... (Apr 11 2003 04:45 GMT) - This strikes me as funny and typical of some people. In a review of the new musical Nine in the New York Times, starring Antonio Banderas: "Perhaps this is all irrelevant, however, to the production's essential selling points. I talked to one middle-aged woman after the show who said she had loved, loved, loved Nine. "Those costumes," she exclaimed, "those hairstyles, that makeup! |

Quackin' Good Time (Apr 11 2003 04:43 GMT) - Today was Brandon's grandmother's birthday, and we went to a local cafe to have dinner. I had the pan-seared duck with mashed potatoes and spinach. It was pretty good - I especially liked the crispy duck skin (Yes I know it's fatty - that's why it's yummy). Interesting how duck and chicken look and taste so different. It's probably 'cause ducks swim and fly, so their meat is on the reddish side (more oxygen needed, therefore more hemoglobin, etc. |
