Capability-based Security (Apr 12 2003 23:58 GMT)

- At the DOCsec conference last week, I met Tyler Close from Waterken Inc. who was speaking about his capability-based security system for web services and applications. A couple of things struck me as interesting about Tyler's approach to web application design : The capability-based security control is something I don't think I have seen in any mainstream commercial product to date, although is a general approach which will have been covered by anyone with a Computing Science degree. There are many advantages of using capabilities rather than an approach based on Credentials + ACLs (Access Control Lists), but it requires a shift in perspective from developers to get into that mindset.

- Looks like Kirsten and I have the choice of two parties to go to tonight. One we were invited to first and RSVPed for, and although we really don't know the person throwing it very well, she is a nice person... the other party is larger and will have multiple deejays (some who I sort of know), probably have a few guests I know, and is full of gothy goodness! So, is it right to cancel an RSVP and go to the latter party which sounds more happening?! Dunno.

- Thoughts about News Reporting I heard about Eason Jordan, chief news executive for CNN, for the first time yesterday. It was on one of these radio talk shows. It seems that Mr. Jordan has long known about the atrocities in Iraq. I found myself become angry at what was said and I thought that this story was either made up or grossly exaggerated.
