Storm over Asia (Apr 14 2003 10:55 GMT) - This blog reached what I consider to be a high point of wilful obscurity in January when I subjected you poor readers to an entire week of enthusiasm about the sinister oddness that is Tuvan throat-singing. Imagine my state of bouncing-off-seat glee today, then, as I learn that the mighty Yat-kha, the Tuvan Pogues*, are playing two dates in London this summer. Shall I go and see them at the Spitz in June? Or shall I go to the Barbican for their improvised soundtrack to the infamous 1928 Soviet film, 'Storm over Asia'? (That's a very funky Barbican site for the X-Bloc festival, by the way. |

More News on Ubiquitous ID Center (Apr 14 2003 10:49 GMT) - The TRON Newsletter for March 2003 has a reference to the website for the new Ubiquitous ID Center, which currently has 52 corporate members. "The goal of the Ubiquitous ID Center is to establish and spread the infrastructure technologies for automatically recognizing "things," thus allowing for the creation of ubiquitous computing environments. This has been a long standing goal of the TRON Project since it was officially launched in 1984, and Ubiquitous IDs (uIDs) are essential components for realizing them. These infrastructure technologies include not just the specifications of chips for radio frequency identification and/or contact/non-contact smart cards, but also those for reader devices plus a 128-bit identification numbering scheme, the numbers for which will be allotted by the Ubiquitous ID Center. Validation testing of the electronic IDs is scheduled to begin in April, the Ubiquitous ID Center said. |

Satisfying Saturday (Apr 14 2003 10:36 GMT) - So when I said I'd tell you whether the weekend worked out or not, I think its safe to say that it did work out. I suppose its my role to write 'the commentary', as Kofi/Faf/Fred hasn't bothered to do so & we don't know what's happened to Remi's version of events, so we go..! I woke up early Saturday morning to go to Kofi's house, however surprised that there were a load of people there at 9:30am, including the other Kofi who wanted his CV typed up.. which is another story in itself. |
