Patriot Act Faces Opposition (Apr 17 2003 23:54 GMT) - An interesting story being reported by AP via FoxNews on House Judiciary Committee chairman James Sensenbrenner's objections to the secrecy and tactics of the DoJ regarding the Patriot Act. Sensenbrenner has apparently sent a list of over 100 questions to the Bush Administration regarding the use and expansion of the Patriot Act but is still waiting for a response -- noting that virtually everything regarding the Act has been classified Top Secret and therefore off-limits to Congress. [...] Sensenbrenner maintains that because the department refuses to be forthcoming, it is losing the public relation battle needed to extend the law beyond its October 2005 expiration, much less expand it. Apple's Bellevue, WA, Store (Apr 17 2003 23:50 GMT) - Apple just gave me a bit of a slapdown by feeding the official announcement of the Belleveue, Washington, Apple Store to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. With the help of Jeff Carlson and MacNN, I broke the very modest story about the new Apple Store last November in the Seattle Times, for which I write a biweekly Macintosh column. Even though I've been writing the column for going on three years, and I have regular very good conversations with several levels of product management at Apple, I have a feeling that I really rubbed them the wrong way by reporting this six months before they were ready. I'm looking forward to the Apple Store coming to town. It should be a great place for product demos, meetings, and Apple-centric trips. |

Asynchronous through a header? (Apr 17 2003 23:44 GMT) - Neither Tomas or Simon (via a comment) agree with using the WS-Addressing ReplyTo to indicate that the message can be handled asynchronously. The first reason against is how do you actually tell someone in WSDL that the message can be asynchronous or synchronous. I'm pretty sure it can be done at the operation level; the same message and portType but different operations. Then the service end-point has different ports - 1 for the asynchronous and one for the synchronous. |

America's War Against Terrorism - USA's Double Standards (Apr 17 2003 23:42 GMT) - The only thing that the United States has learnt from history is that it is incapable of learning any lesson from history! All kinds of terrorism are equally condemnable, but Islamic terrorism is global and a threat to humanity, and human civilization, while other terrorism's are localized ones like LTTE terrorism, Irish terrorism or ULFA terrorism, which are not a threat to the rest of the world. A clear distinction should be hence made between Global Islamic terrorism and localized terrorism's. Is President Bush opposed to terrorism per se, or only opposed to terrorism against the United States? If President Bush is opposed to terrorism per se, is it not ridiculous that he should seek the help of Pakistan, the father of Islamic terrorism and the Taliban movement, and the sponsor of Islamic terrorism in Kashmir, to root out global terrorism in the world? |

The only reason I went to a paid account was for the stability, as free users can find the site slow and unreliable at the best of times. Not icons. Not the free extras.
