Money Is Time (Apr 26 2003 23:33 GMT) - One of the most important decisions a team needs to make is how much money to raise. As the 90's wore on, the answer was pretty easy: as much as possible. Capital seemed almost free, marketing budgets were getting big, venture funds were getting bigger and $100 million rounds were not out of the question. The amount of capital raised had little to do with a company's needs and the whole issue of how much is enough was rarely discussed. |

gzip (Apr 26 2003 23:32 GMT) - Ted Leung is tracking gzip support in aggregators. Given that its less than 10 lines of code to support gzip & deflate in .NET (via #ziplib), none of .NET aggregators have a very good excuse for not supporting it. I rev'd my build of Syndirella to include gzip/deflate support (this build also includes blogThis support). |

jane @ 04/26/2003 01:00 PM (Apr 26 2003 23:32 GMT) - I was suspicious after the Diana interview but the Jackson one really did finish his reputation off, so to speak. I suggest Sir Trevor disassociates himself quickly! Have a look at the Uri Geller website> It's quite something, although I'm not sure quite what. |

Thought of the day (Apr 26 2003 23:31 GMT) - Thought of the day: Easy and hard tests are myths; the hard- or easy-grading professor is the reality. Ever taken a test and thought you aced it? You probably did. |

Cy Young Chacon (Apr 26 2003 23:30 GMT) - Shawn Chacon won his fourth game of the season today, and continues to pitch impressively, even at Coors. I've joked in the past that any Rockies starter who can put up an ERA under 4.00 for a season should automatically... |

The Truth Boogaloo (Apr 26 2003 23:28 GMT) - {conspiracy-theory warning!} I am being patient before my full out rant about the total lack of evidence for WMD[1]. Yes, I would have assumed that the ‘thousands’ of tons of chemical and biological agents should have bee tripped over by... |

Powering 3G (Apr 26 2003 23:27 GMT) - There are now more than 1 billion mobile phone users in the world. By the time most of the 3G networks are built, there will be 1.5 billion phones in use. Ericsson estimates that the completely deployed 3G networks in Sweden, designed for about 6 million people, will use about 0.6 TWh/year. |

Learning from i-mode (Apr 26 2003 23:27 GMT) - Want a good tech buzz? Then you need to delve into some of the i-mode stuff that's out there. I quickly ripped through most of I-mode Strategy last night and was completely blown away by it. DoCoMo pioneered everything that we're just starting to get our hands on over 3 years ago. It's amazing to see the timelines and to realize how far ahead the Japanese have been in so many areas in mobile technology. |

One in ten (Apr 26 2003 23:26 GMT) - Good editorial from the WSJ on how this summer may provide mankind a chance to eradicate SARS, just one chance. In what I find a deeply disturbing irony the journal has that editorial behind their profit making wall; interesting counter point to China's problems. I can't believe anybody is taking the Chinese numbers seriously. The first reports of SARS in China were apparently last fall. |

SmartNavigation and why not to use it (Apr 26 2003 23:26 GMT) - SmartNavigation seems to be a nice feature - it allows Internet Explorer to handle PostBacks in a very clever way. You don't have to worry about having a long site - it will return to the point where you have been before. Or if you define some events - SmartNavigation will enable you to invoke the handlers without posting the page back to the server. But: If you are going to program a serious website for users of different browsers (Netscape, Opera, Konqueror or Safari) you need to turn SmartNavigation off, because it simply doesn't work with this kind of browsers. |
