Rogério Prado @ 04/28/2003 10:43 AM (Apr 28 2003 15:02 GMT) - Alexandre, Li, sim. E gostei. |

Defending Bill Pryor (Apr 28 2003 15:01 GMT) - Someone named Quin Hillyer is defending Bill Pryor's fitness to be an Appeals Court judge in the National Review Online. Articles of this sort always have a paradoxical flavor since NRO, being a conservative website for political junkies, has an... |

Private Sector Engine of Growth Must Take Women on Board (Apr 28 2003 15:01 GMT) - An East African Community study on a Private Sector Development Strategyto be tabled in Arusha in May 2003 has gone beyond its mandate to highlightthat regional economic development will not materialise unless women - whomake up half of the 83 million people in the region - are "mainstreamed"into economic activities. Eradicating SARS in 2003? (Apr 28 2003 15:00 GMT) - From SARS Watch, an excellent and highly recommended site tracking SARS, an op-ed piece from the Wall Street Journal: As summer approaches and the SARS epidemic declines, there will be an understandable urge to celebrate. But we must eschew premature celebrations and self-congratulations. History teaches us that the devastating 1918 influenza epidemic began with a modest "herald wave" in spring that faded away during the summer, only to explode and wreck global devastation the following fall and winter. It is possible that SARS, now seeded around the globe, could follow a similar pattern and fade away this summer, only to erupt again next winter. |

Homosexuality and the Right to Privacy (Apr 28 2003 15:00 GMT) - Via SFGate, an unedited transcript of the relevant portion of Senator Rick Santorum's comments on homosexuality and privacy. This should be considered required reading for all US citizens. I've commented on it below: AP: If you're saying that liberalism is taking power away from the families, how is conservatism giving more power to the families? |

A brief history of spam (Apr 28 2003 15:00 GMT) - According to Brad Templeton, spam will be 25 on the 3rd of May this year. That first spam was sent by a salesman for DEC - Digital Equipment Corporation. Today, you may not know DEC, since it was bought by Compaq and is now a unit of HP, but in those days it was the leading minicomputer maker, and its computers provided the platform for the development of Unix, C and much of the internet, to cite just a few minor events [.....] The DEC salesman, identified only as "THUERK at DEC-MARLBORO" (There were no dots or dot-coms in those... |

Colour my Dyson (Apr 28 2003 15:00 GMT) - Have you ever seen a product that has taken your breath away with it's outstandingly bad colouring? Surely you must have seen one of those De Stijl Dyson vacuum cleaners (or as I like to call them Hoovers). They look as if the engineers did the design, then let a bunch of blind monkeys on heat do the colouring. Well, now it's your turn to try your hand at picking out some colours. The blind monkeys at Dyson are having the week off so they can visit their relatives in Zambia, and yo... |
