Road map presented Just hours ... (Apr 30 2003 17:59 GMT) - Road map presented Just hours after a new Palestinian administration was in place, and a group of Palestinian terrorists launched their protest by blowing up some Israeli civilians in Tel Aviv, the long-awaited roadmap to peace was presented. Reactions are, to put not too fine a point on it, mixed. Hamas rejected the plan outright, without even seeing it. They were one of two groups claiming responsibility for the bomb attack. The sticking point of the plan is that the Palestinian Authority has to crack down on these militants. |

Gorgeous George and his (alleged) Iraqi millions (Apr 30 2003 17:58 GMT) - One hell of a scoop, a week or so ago, for the Daily Telegraph. Correspondent David Blair - who I'm pretty sure used to write for me from Uganda when I was editor of Gemini News Service not so long ago - came across papers purporting to show British MP George Galloway was in league with Saddam. The outline of the story is pretty clear, and I should say upfront that Galloway himself is denying the charge, wrapped as it is by twaddle about treason and other bits of over-heated conspiracy theorising. Many have suggested a plant. If the reporter really is the guy I'm thinking of, I very much doubt he fixed it. |

Naughty, naughty (Apr 30 2003 17:58 GMT) - $1.4 billion sounds like a sizable slice of change. Unless you're an investment bank, of course. Still, that's what 10 of them have coughed up in fines and subsidies for independent research and "investor education" (?) as a settlement for systematically lying to investors through the bubble years and afterwards. |

New world odour (Apr 30 2003 17:58 GMT) - Surprise, surprise. Vladimir Putin isn't exactly an early adherent of the "we're all in this together" school of diplomacy. For the past few days, Tony Blair has been making a concerted effort to tick off what Donald Rumsfeld called "old Europe", warning of the dangers of creating an anti-US axis. Problem is, Blair's analysis stops short at "we're all basically, y'know, the same." But on the evidence of the past six months, it seems clear that we're not. |

More on Mike Hawash (Apr 30 2003 17:58 GMT) - The guy locked up in Oregon as a "material witness" has finally been charged. With flying to China and trying to enlist in al-Qaeda to assist in fighting the US-led forces there back in 2001, as far as I can tell. This is beyond bizarre. The bare outline is in an announcement from the Department of Justice (sorry, it's a pdf), suggesting he and several others travelled via Xinjiang (the predominantly Muslim bit of western China. Lots of bad people there, according to the US and Chinese governments) in October, before giving up and heading home the following month. |

Acer n10 Reviewed by infoSync World (Apr 30 2003 17:58 GMT) - "In the current Pocket PC market, it's hard for a manufacturer to make a dent anywhere. Since Dell's arrival at the low end of the market, competitors are finding it difficult to match the Axim's features at an acceptable price point. At the other end of the spectrum, Toshiba and HP hold down the fort with their feature-laden handhelds. Laptop heavyweight Acer have pitched their new n10 in the budget realm, in competition with Dell. Let's see how things stack up... |
