Helpline Comment (21725) (May 07 2003 23:59 GMT) - Raymond, Don't take me the wrong way - you were right on. I just filled in some details. 704K is just a 640K system with an extra 64K starting at A0000. A system using a monochrome adapter would do this. I'm not sure about the specific memory cards that would allow this, but it doesn't seem hard .. |

Smart Clients and Web Form Controls from the web (May 07 2003 23:57 GMT) - I've been playing around with Smart Client and Web Form controls downloaded via HTTP, or hosted in a page, and I must say I'm really impressed. First, it's nice that MS removed the security restriction that made it next to impossible to download WinForms stuff without jumping through major hoops, and second, it's rather impressive the control you get, and the ease with which you can set up a page with a control on it. I hope that we see pages that use it the way applets were common in the mid to late 90's. I know I'm going to use it for admin pages on our web app, instead of trying to maintain complex web forms... |

The Bottom Line of the New Browser Wars (May 07 2003 23:56 GMT) - Even though Microsoft seems to have won the browser wars decisively, some interesting new offerings have emerged recently, produced by tiny startups, open-source projects and even titans like Apple. Could these programs reignite competition and force Microsoft to speed up its own pace of browser innovation? |

Cisco Profits Up, Sales Down (May 07 2003 23:56 GMT) - Cisco Systems sounded a familiar refrain in reporting its quarterly results, saying profits were up but sales declined as demand for its networking gear remained soft, forcing the company to scale back its efforts to develop next-generation products. |
