Herzog + Kinski = Truth ... (May 16 2003 23:56 GMT) - Herzog + Kinski = Truth Kinski with the butterfly at the end of this film My Best Fiend is one of the best cinematic moments ever captured. True , the effects will never match Matrix Reloaded (hyperlink the entire internet) and neither will the Box Office, but the film is still there for your vicarious enjoyment. Twyla even liked the butterfly. A man with incredible inner torment, making him an outcast to even the most primitive of people, at peace. A man dancing with a butterfly. |

How We Love Google (May 16 2003 23:50 GMT) - News on Google (En Español)Google has become so much a part of our lives that each of us like to show our connection to Google in our own way. Some write about Google in their blogs each day while others are Google watchers ferreting out anything that has changed from about an hour ago. Others however show their connection to Google by copying the Google home page. No, I was not referring to Yahoo, or AllTheWeb who recently changed their home pages to look like Google, I was referring to seven other sites. |

"The Bug"'s lifeOne of the ... (May 16 2003 23:43 GMT) - "The Bug"'s lifeOne of the things I'm proudest of from my tenure as Salon's technology editor was whatever role we played in helping the writing of Ellen Ullman -- some of the most thoughtful, accessible prose on programming you'll find anywhere -- reach a wider audience. We excerpted her "Close to the Machine" when it came out in 1997, and I had the pleasure of interviewing her at the time. She later did some more memorable writing for Salon. Now she's written a wonderful novel called "The Bug." You can read the excerpt here, and my new interview with her here. |
