- I think it's ironic that a man in an ad for Turner Classic Movies, that runs right before Matrix Reloaded, tries to buy tickets for "Visually Stunning but Ultimately Pointless Sequel". WARNING: SPOILERS UPDATE: This guy does a great job of explaining the philosophical and religious thought that went into the sequel, and he even makes two predictions that I did, namely that Agent Smith will end up helping Neo, and that the young kid that Neo apparently saved at one point will end up playing a pivotal role in Revolutions. Well worth reading for the curious. |

Guardian: The blog clog myth. ... (May 19 2003 15:58 GMT) - Guardian: The blog clog myth. The trouble is that when potentially legitimate concerns about Google's weaknesses are shrouded in conspiracy theories, and other stuff that's just plain wrong, we all reach for those in-built filters far stronger than anything Google can supply: the ones that help us smell BS from afar, and route round it without further ado. Then, one day when Google really does get it wrong, the message will be all the harder to get out. |

Napster reborn! Roxio buys PressPlay (May 19 2003 15:58 GMT) - Napster reborn! Roxio buys PressPlay The Register - Roxio is to relaunch Napster, on the back of today's $39m cash and stock acquisition of PressPlay, the download music service, from Sony and Universal Music. The company is the proud owner of the Napster name and P2P file trading technology, acquired for $5m last November. But from the sound of it, there won't be much in the way of file trading, legal or otherwise: |

Chicago Traffic (May 19 2003 15:56 GMT) - Im grateful that I lack a daily commute. I really hate Chicago Traffic. On our way back from Chicago last Friday I witnessed some really unhappy people. One driver, intent on short-cutting traffic by driving on the shoulder, was stopped by the two cars in front of us. |

Our Party (May 19 2003 15:56 GMT) - Two nights ago we had a big gathering hosted at the girls' dorm to celebrate another successful semester! There was good food and great atmosphere. Everyone was so happy to be finished with portfolio work and excited to begin summer vacation. It was a bilingual party and everyone was chatting in half-Japanese, half-English; it was fantastic. |

WASP Gives Web Services Development Some Sting (May 19 2003 15:54 GMT) - Although most of the Web services examples in tutorials and books are green-field developments -- that is, started from scratch with little or no concern for legacy systems -- that is not a likely scenario in most enterprises. When large organizations contemplate Web services, they are seeking more efficient interactions with customers or trading partners with whom they already have relationships. |

Muskrat Love (May 19 2003 15:54 GMT) - Tourism officials in Monroe, Michigan are considering putting "4-foot-tall dudded up muskrats" around town to drum up tourism, similar to New York's cows or Toronto's mooses. Apparently locals also host mukrat dinners! I wish it weren't so, but it should be noted that I was born just a few miles... |
