Neo-Conservatism Explained. Thus with neoconservatism, ... (May 20 2003 20:59 GMT) - Neo-Conservatism Explained. Thus with neoconservatism, we have the statist aspects of the old conservatism minus the libertarian aspects that led the old conservatives to favor decentralist political institutions and free enterprise. Add to that the natural tendency of anyone in power to use the tools they have at their disposal. What we end up with is a danger to liberty as fierce as any ever posed by the left. But by the standard of loving Leviathan, today's neo-conservatism is worse than every brand of conservatism that preceded it. |

Mailing list archives (May 20 2003 20:57 GMT) - Searchable archives are great to have for mailing lists, but not so easy to set up. When available, they're usually done by a volunteer from the list who jury-rigs something to funnel their messages into a database. I was doing a Google search following yet another request for this capability, and discovered that WebCrossing has a very easy way to mirror external mailing lists. I just happened to have a 4.0 version, and had it set up in an afternoon. |

As it turns out, talkshow host Howard Stern has explained to a caller earlier today what a "weblog" was. Howard said something along the lines of having looked at blogs and finding them boring. Howard, in case you are reading this: I would subscribe to your weblog any time. |

Roosevelt Time Capsule Is Still Missing (May 20 2003 20:56 GMT) - The world may never know the precise location of a time capsule left by Teddy Roosevelt on a Portland hillside one century ago. Unix History (May 20 2003 20:55 GMT) - Here is something that maybe SCO Group and SUN should listen to and reflect on, an audio technetcast of the history of Unix. It not only covers the hard work of free source people that was rewarded with the winning of the 1993 case and code in BSD Lite; but it also covers the aspect of marketplace fragmentation by closed source companies. |
