Helpline Comment (21880) (May 21 2003 04:59 GMT) - Billy, The correct answer is usually 'it depends'. SCSI devices are usually on one chain, unless you are a masochist and you run multiple SCSI cards. (Been there.) However, I doubt that the SCSI drivers for an operating system like Windows are going to be sophisticated enough to pass data to devices on the SCSI chain without ever going to main memory. In theory it is possible, but it's probably not done that way - too complex, and too device dependent. |

Effective Communication: Phrase of the Day (May 21 2003 04:59 GMT) - In a world where we spend so much money and time on communicating, we do a horrible job at communicating effectively. The most difficult part of my job (when I switch the hat to personnel manager) is listening and then communicating coherently with the listener(s). I find, however, that time and time again, while people talk, they don't talk to the right people and still expect positive things to happen. If I tell my garbage man that my telephone does not work, how do I expect the telephone repairman (note: when I write man I am intending the genderless form) to know that there is something wrong with the telephone? |

Super-pinball-tastic! (May 21 2003 04:55 GMT) - Sometimes we just need to get back to a bit of the old school. There's something cool and calm about the old style wooden pinball without all of them new fangled whistles and bells. Well okay, bells are a fairly integral part of any pinball table, except for that one made of cardboard and rusty nails down at the village fete.Okay, so maybe a web based wooden pinball game isn't really all as exciting as owning the real thing, but lets face it... its better than this pile. |

This week is International Pickle Week. I can just imagine the collective wizened heads of the United Nations turning their attentions to the serious issue of pickle politics and how to stop the shadowy cabal of assassins, codename: Pickle Packers International from taking over the world with their seemingly helpful pickle tips and fun pickle games. |

This makes me sick. I ... (May 21 2003 04:51 GMT) - This makes me sick. I am not necessarily a capital punishment proponent, but whoever did this needs to experience some extreme punishment: Last night, during a birthday dinner downtown, someone maliciously released five of our [Mark and Debbie Moderow's] Iditarod dogs from our dog truck at 6th and L Street. The five dogs were seen together on the Park Strip and four of them, seasoned co-members of Debbie's team this year, circled back to the truck and were recovered with only one minor injury. The fifth, a new dog named Reno is still missing. |

Awww Dang! (May 21 2003 04:50 GMT) - I was working on making this evil-looking face into a cover for my new "super-cute" computer... Unfortunately, the green stripe on the computer is actually on the front plastic case, and would cover up the little evil vampire face. The good news is that they sell clear plastic fronts and little template kits for the computer (which I can probably get at Fry's). The face is part of a font set called Ill October (there's an additional set called Ill October 98). I was just thinking that its too bad Office Max doesn't sell some kind of temporary tattoo kit that you can use your printer to print your own custom temporary tattoos (like they do with the iron-on t-shirts). |
