memorial day (May 26 2003 23:57 GMT)

- damn, i have been dreading the end of this peaceful weekend all day.... just think how much more we would all get accomplished if a three day weekend were the standard. if you're like me, you tend to cram so much activity and to do list activities into a weekend, it never feels like you are truly getting things accomplished, without feeling like you are sacraficing your relaxation time, to do it. jr. actually had to go to school today, which wasn't that bad of a deal.

- Hate crime reporting is pretty bad in general, and once you're not talking about race it gets worse. Still, HRW did something on post 9/11 hate crimes, and given that there are 10-15 times as many Muslims as Sikhs, and I'm pretty sure that such a gap doesn't exist in the crime numbers. I haven't read the report but my impression was that they were close to even, with Sikhs suffering some of the more violent crimes.

- Marcus -- I'm in partial agreement with you. After Sodhi's death, the state and people of Arizona rallied admirably, and made it clear that they wouldn't tolerate murder, no matter what justification was offered.
