Novell hits back at SCO on Unix claims (May 29 2003 22:41 GMT) - As a followup to SCO/Caldera/Microsoft vs Linux, this Infoworld article indicates Novell never transferred copyrights, patents of Unix System V to SCO. Novell detailed this in a press release dated May 28, 2003. For more about Novell and Linux, see Novell selects and sponsors LPI's certification exams. Is this a case where SCO, a dieing company, is trying to harm the good reputation of Linux on its way out? It needs to be stressed that the Free/Libre Software movement is not opposed to Intellectual Property. |

Man or Machine? (May 29 2003 22:38 GMT) - The L.A. Times has posted an interesting essay discussing the erosion of the division between humanity and its mechanical creations in science fiction. Matrix Reloaded was different from its predecessor especially in how it depicted the various rogue elements of the Matrix. Once I saw strong personalties such as the Keymaker, the Oracle, the "Eurotrash" rogues, and Agent Smith freely making decisions and taking action, I could feel my empathy for Neo and the humans of Zion slipping. |
