spacenamespace: (May 30 2003 23:57 GMT) - "this is a kind of collaborative mapping project. it consists of geographical models which are represented as RDF graphs. you can wander round them, like a MUD or MOO, with a bot interface which you can use to create and connect new places. it is an experiment in gonzo geographical data collection, with location grid data extrapolated from and converted between different sources on the internet, and new connections made between them. it is a semantic web project; |

SCO press conference follow up (May 30 2003 23:56 GMT) - Well, a little later than expected, as news was slow to hit the sites, but the press conference went predictably bad for SCO, and promises that unless Microsoft, their one and only supporter at this point, puts up a lot more cash than one license provides, the company is in for a world of legal and monetary hurt. SCO said that it will settle the claims made by Novell yesterday in court in an effort to settle the copyright issues and allow SCO to go forward with future copyright infringement claims. SCO's Darl McBride also chimed in that the claims by Novell were meant to mess around with the fact SCO was releasing their quarterly earnings the same day. Either way, SCO feels it's feelings were hurt, and has gone to the lawyers for a settlement tissue for the tears. Oh, and they'll open the code to those stupid enough willing to sign an NDA. |

On the Banks of the Salton Sea (May 30 2003 23:54 GMT) - The title of this L.A. Times article is "A Dangerous Slum Sprouts in the Desert" and the writer is quite obviously horrified. "They call it 'Duroville,' a haphazard village of roughly 4,000 people and dozens of unregulated businesses that has sprouted from the desert scrub in just two years. It was named for its founder, Harvey Duro, a husky member of the Torres-Martinez Band of Cahuilla Indians, who said he just may double the size of the place. |
