Mozilla RC1 out !

THE REAL REASONS FOR WAR ... (May 31 2003 08:59 GMT) - THE REAL REASONS FOR WAR "For bureaucratic reasons, we settled on one issue, weapons of mass destruction, because it was the one reason everyone could agree on," Wolfowitz was quoted as saying in Vanity Fair magazine's July issue. Wolfowitz said another reason for the invasion had been "almost unnoticed but huge" - namely that the ousting of Saddam would allow the United States to remove its troops from Saudi Arabia, where their presence had long been a major al-Qaeda grievance." [For ousting of Saddam read 'occupying Iraq', for remove troops from Saudi Arabia read 'move the bases to Iraq']. When the US attacks Iraq to be able to close their bases in Saudi Arabia, they do so because they then have bases in Iraq. Conclusion: |

Bush Fills Key Slots With Young Loyalists (May 31 2003 08:59 GMT) - President Bush is quietly retooling the White House staff for his reelection campaign by promoting a group of young loyalists to key positions, further concentrating power with the handful of veteran advisers closest to him. Bush's inner circle, many with ties going back to his Texas days, has stayed largely in place. But there has been substantial turnover in the past few months in the next tier, including the nomination last week of deputy chief of staff Joshua B. Bolten as budget director. Bolten is trusted by Bush but is largely unknown outside the White House. |

Serious doubts (May 31 2003 08:56 GMT) - Talk about raison d'état: Jack Straw and his US counterpart, Colin Powell, privately expressed serious doubts about the quality of intelligence on Iraq's banned weapons programme at the very time they were publicly trumpeting it to get UN support for a war on Iraq, the Guardian has learned. Not Getting It (May 31 2003 08:47 GMT) - For heavy authoring and graphics and so on, you need a native application. But a huge majority of business data processing is you interacting with a database off on a server somewhere, and as far as I can see, a Web Browser is still the best way to do that. WinForms? Pshaw!
