Newly Digital (May 31 2003 23:03 GMT) - When people ask you about your first computer, what do they mean? I mean, do they mean the first one you ever used, the first one you assembled, the first one you monopolized, or the first one you purchased? I'm still not sure where it all began with me. The second grade, perhaps - with access to an Apple ][e in the hallway. Then, there was the ][e at the Altoona Public Library. |

In my fantasy, we are grocery shopping for all sorts of Egyptian delicacies unavailable to the average Iraqi shopper. We hold hands and sigh and giggle. When we come to the toilet tissue aisle, you foolishly tear open the package and wrap your head like a Beduoin. |

Try Saddam quickly (May 31 2003 23:01 GMT) - The Independent (UK): The men who carried out mass killings and other atrocities on the instructions of Saddam Hussein will be handed over to newly constituted Iraqi courts for trial and probable execution, said Britain's most senior official in Iraq. If Saddam himself is found alive, there will be a clamour from his former victims for him to be killed quickly, if only to reassure the Iraqi people that he can never return to power, John Sawers, head of the British mission in Basra, told The Independent on Sunday. "The Iraqis want him to be found. They will want his head on a stick," he added. |

McDonalds sues dissatisfied critic. (May 31 2003 23:01 GMT) - So you serve food that a critic thinks is uneatable. And he writes a column about it. Rather than follow all the legal precedents set out (think ECHR in this situation, although USians will probably think 1st Amendment - it's very similar) to prevent this, McDonalds have sued a food critic who wrote nasty things about them in a newspaper. Following the suggestion of a MeFier I'd like to point out that the collective opinion of everyone here is that McDonald's fast food is the most jaw-droppingly delicious food derivative product ever concocted. Every time I see a Fillet-O-Fish, my eyes are drawn to it, like a spectator to a train crash. |
