Asynchrony and Web Services. (Jun 07 2003 15:40 GMT) - Ronald Schmelzer of ZapThink writes, "Implementing Web services simply as an extension of synchronous, object-oriented technologies and approaches will quickly complicate any effort to realize the benefits of an SOA. As a result, it is imperative for companies to implement asynchrony -- one of the three fundamental tenets of service-orientation -- in order to meet the requirements of long-running, business-critical processes." I don't see that OO is in anyway tied to the synchronous model. They're ortohgonal concepts. OTOH, Ron is certainly correct that asynchrony (asynchronicity? |

Hail To The Thief (Jun 07 2003 15:36 GMT) - Here's my big and slightly uncoordinated review of Radiohead's new album, Hail to the Thief, I've had a copy of this for a while, downloaded off the magical internet and I have to say that it contains some of the best work of their career. I didn't rush this review at all, iTunes tells me that I've listened to the songs about 15 times already in finished album form (I had live tracks beforehand) and I'll go through them a few more times than that for your delectation, hope you enjoy. 2+2=5 Radiohead have traditionally liked to start their albums strongly, but with a real sense of an overture. I'm really glad I don't have to go and find the quote from Thom to back this assertion up. Planet Telex from The Bends is perhaps the best example of this loose but restrained opening and it's something 2+2=5 wholeheartedly embraces. |

Commerce Department to review spectrum (Jun 07 2003 15:33 GMT) - The Bush administration has ordered the Commerce Department to review how the government manages radio spectrum (via Werblog) and make suggestions on how to make improvements. I hope that this will be a real review rather than the corporate payback that the FCC just gave out. |

Sim orgies (Jun 07 2003 15:33 GMT) - "The orgy idea grew from a post someone made to alt.games.the-sims, noting that although Sims get jealous if their spouses or lovers hug, flirt with, dance with, or even compliment another Sim, they don't get jealous if the spouse or lover plays in bed with another Sim. The post mentioned the nonjealous Sim just standing around by the love bed. I thought it might be fun to put a love bed in the middle of a dance floor at a party so the other party-goers would be dancing and talking while the love bed action was taking place. |

Analysis Of Iraq Trailers Reject Germ Use (Jun 07 2003 15:33 GMT) - American and British intelligence analysts with direct access to the evidence are disputing claims that the mysterious trailers found in Iraq were for making deadly germs. In interviews over the last week, they said the mobile units were more likely intended for other purposes and charged that the evaluation process had been damaged by a rush to judgment. "Everyone has wanted to find the 'smoking gun' so much that they may have wanted to have reached this conclusion," said one intelligence expert who has seen the trailers and, like some others, spoke on condition that he not be identified. He added, "I am very upset with the process." The Bush administration has said the two trailers, which allied forces found in Iraq in April and May, are evidence that Saddam Hussein was hiding a program for biological warfare. |

I Don't Like Liars (Jun 07 2003 15:33 GMT) - Americans are a people of basic decency and common sense. If they knew the truth about the dishonesty of the Bush administration, the chemistry of the current politics in this country would be radically altered. Bush couldn't get away with one quarter of the extremist surgery he is performing on this nation, if only the Democrats would out him as a liar. Unfortunately, neither the Democratic leadership nor the pro-Bush media is interested in standing up for a government based on honesty and truth. We think Tom Daschle or Nancy Pelosi would make decent honest presidents, but they make lousy leaders of the opposition party. |

Admit your lies: Former UN inspector tells Bush, Blair (Jun 07 2003 15:33 GMT) - The United States and Britain should admit they lied when claiming that the ousted Baghdad regime had weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), Scott Ritter, a former UN senior weapons inspector in Iraq, said in an interview published in Geneva on Friday. They should "admit their lies", he said. But, Ritter added, Saddam Hussein could not have destroyed a possible arsenal of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) "without leaving traces... (US Secretary of Defence) Donald Rumsfeld has furnished no proof of their supposed destruction, just as he has never furnished the slightest proof of their existence". |

Fresh Doubts Over Iraq's Arsenal (Jun 07 2003 15:33 GMT) - A leaked US intelligence report has cast fresh doubt on the coalition claims that Iraq had banned weapons which served as justification for going to war. The secret September 2002 Pentagon intelligence report concluded that there was "no reliable information" that Iraq had biological or chemical weapons. It is believed the report was widely circulated in the Bush administration at a time when senior officials were putting the case for military action. |
