home alone (Aug 09 2003 15:59 GMT) - so kristin left me this morning. she's house-sitting out on Long Island this week for a nice little amount of cashola, but as the house-sitting entails putting up with 5 yipping little cross-eyed dogs, and two very loud and obnoxious african greys, I decided to stay home with my nice eclectus parrot who says "hello" all the time and only occasionally gets rowdy.i have many chores left to keep me busy, too. Have to do laundry today. Need to work on my dissertation. |

Staring Into Space (Aug 09 2003 15:59 GMT) - Staring Into SpaceI had a lovely dinner last night that I had to leave early and appreciated everyone's graciousness around the table to let me go so soon, but I've been writing fiction and it seems to require a enormous amount of time of simply staring into space. Doing nothing. I thought I read somewhere that Thurber's wife used to say when he wandered around the house like a somnambulist in a daze, "Ut oh, he's writing again." That's just about the way I get. Spend a lot of time on the floor looking up at the ceiling. |

Professor James Murray from the University of Washington believes he has formulated a model which can predict the chances of staying with a chosen partner. The Future of Music (Aug 09 2003 15:53 GMT) - The future of music is Eigenradio -- statistically optimal music since 2003. Eigenradio makes its optimal music by analyzing in real time dozens of radio stations at once. When our bank of computers has heard enough music, it will go to work on making more just like it. Since we listen to so much music all the time, Eigenradio is always on and always live. What you hear on Eigenradio is the best of the New Music, distilled and de-correlated. |
