get there (Aug 09 2003 17:13 GMT) - Some of you may recall that at the end of the trip to PNNL there remained one performance improvement on the list. Last week was spent constructing said improvement, and this one was devoted largely to wrangling for cluster time to test it. We delivered that drop to the customer today, after Matt was unable to break it overnight, and things seem to be going pretty smoothly. Not bad for, well, me. My grand plans for our anniversary were to rent a steam cleaner, clean all the upholstery, and generally improve the living room to a state of excellent repair. |

the height of romance (Aug 09 2003 17:13 GMT) - My intention, you see, had been to not write this entry until I had delivered unto my lovely wife — whose vague terror of my anniversary plans grows with the passing of every minute — the gift with which I plan to commemorate the fourth anniversary of our marriage. But my plans are being laid to waste by the swift and sure hand of Cruel Fate, so I thought I'd vent a little bit. More detail later, but I wanted to get that off my chest. |

As Ordered, It's About Oil (Aug 09 2003 17:11 GMT) - "AN EXECUTIVE ORDER can be a surreptitious way of making policy. It often makes an end-run around Congress and frequently escapes the media's attention as well. It is, in short, a way of making policy by fiat." "President Bush has signed a slew of executive orders that have gone unreported for weeks or months -- most notably, changes to environmental regulations and restricted access to former presidential papers and Freedom of Information Act information." "Now, a potentially explosive executive order has just been discovered by SEEN, the Sustainable Energy and Economy Network. |

What ever shall we do? (Aug 09 2003 17:10 GMT) - I just woke up and heard on the radio that in about an hour's time there will be a big parade of cars from the Canad Inns Stadium to Downtown, at which time many blocks of downtown will be blocked off for Cruz in Winnipeg show. There is likely to be a show of some of the best classic and newer model cars this city has to show, along with vendors for everything from food and Ice Cream to car parts and accessories. I haven't heard of this before, but I do look forward to checking out, and photographing some of the most amazing cars this city has had in one place. I am not sure how long I will be able to drag Cody away from the PC, as it is sure that he will need to get out of the sun and all, though rain is on the forecast sometime today. I will report, and post, ASAP. |
