The RSS Wars (Aug 09 2003 21:57 GMT) - Interesting conversation going on at Jason Kottke's site on RSS 1.0 and 2.0. As a feed provider, my primary concern is shipping out content to the most consumers, and if I need to use two formats to do that, that's fine. My use of RSS 1. |

Howard Dean On The Environment: San Francisco, July 31, 2003 (Aug 09 2003 21:55 GMT) - Howard Dean came to town last Thursday, and I was able to video two of his speaking events. The first event in the afternoon was on the environment. Howard warned us that his speech might be a little stiff, and he wasn't kidding. But he did make some good points, including one about the potential of wind power. (Small - 3 MB) One highlight took place when a cell phone rang and Dean realized it was his own. |

Vacation OntologyThe BBC's Tech Guru ... (Aug 09 2003 21:54 GMT) - Vacation OntologyThe BBC's Tech Guru (and my colleague on the iSociety Advisory Board), Bill Thompson, has been on holiday in Venice and has been musing on the experience of being (largely) disconnected from the Net. He seems to find it untraumatic. "I use my mobile connection to send some e-mail", he writes, "and I go into a cyber cafe to download the torrent of spam and occasional useful message. But apart from a brief glance at a couple of news sites to check that no major disasters have befallen the world - and the hottest day on record in London doesn't count - I have hardly used the web at all."Bill goes on to mount one of his hobby horses -- the pointlessness of Blogging. |

Geek-hipster erotica: Dreampod Sessions, Part 2 (Aug 09 2003 21:51 GMT) - Now online at Nerve.com: "Cold" is part two of The Dreampod Sessions, an erotic series by eminently cool Brooklyn-based geek photographer Siege. Shot with digital cameras, both editions in this series apply ambient gel lighting in a manner not typically used in such shoots. Unfortunately, it's paid-subscription access only, but this is particularly delicious stuff. |

BloggerCon (Aug 09 2003 21:50 GMT) - Would you pay $500 to spend the day listening to people talk about blogging? Not that I was one of the "invited", (I probably don't live close enough to Boston) but please! I'm already sick of reading all the BS hype about blogging as it is! In fact, one day last week I was so fucking sick of all the bull that goes with blogging that I came about this close to just giving it up completely! Then I remembered why I got into his and the people who I do enjoy reading and decided against that. |
