Hamas leaders vow revenge (Aug 10 2003 00:59 GMT) - Ha'aretz: Hamas leaders in Gaza on Saturday warned Israel that the group's armed wing would carry out an attack to avenge the deaths of two senior members of the group, who were killed in an Israel Defense Forces operation the day before at the Askar refugee camp, in the West Bank city of Nablus. "We are still committed to the truce but we will react against the Zionist enemy crimes," senior Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi said. "Hamas's military wing, the Iz a Din al-Kassam Brigades, has decided to react against the Nablus crimes." IDF troops operating in the West Bank on Saturday arrested four Hamas militants who, according to the defense establishment, were planning to carry out terror attacks to avenge the deaths of Hamas militants killed during the raid, Army Radio reported. |

Java handhelds? (Aug 10 2003 00:56 GMT) - Java handhelds are less secure than desktops, according to Shlomo Touboul: Given the relatively limited hardware capabilities of these small devices, he says, "when they put Java into the handset, they took out most of the security in the JVM Java virtual machine]." While that may be little more than a self-serving observation from the San Jose-based data security firm, it's worth considering as companies begin distributing Java phones and PDAs to mobile workers. It's also worth pondering by the network providers that may become a legal target of those who lose precious data due to lax security. Touboul argues that less technically sophisticated handheld users have vastly different expectations of the providers that offer "air-time services" and the devices that consume them. |

Stay with Radio or move on to TypePad???? (Aug 10 2003 00:56 GMT) - Dewayne Says:Should I stick with Radio or move on to typepad? I've been using one form or another of Userland products for 3 plus years and been very happy with all of my experiences. However with Dave moving on I am not sure what is going to happen to Userland. The pace of Radio's changes has dramatically declined and my requirements increase at the same old pace. |

Peacekeepers find looted warehouse in Monrovia port (Aug 10 2003 00:54 GMT) - AP via The Guardian: American and West African military officers ventured into Monrovia's rebel-held port for the first time Saturday and found aid warehouses looted and corpses floating by the docks. With days left in President Charles Taylor's regime, his spokesman warned that government fighters might create chaos when he leaves. "We are ready to kill and steal anytime,'' said a marijuana-toking government fighter, who goes by the name Red Devil. He spoke at an abandoned, bullet-pocked hotel serving as an outpost for Taylor's fighters on war-divided Monrovia's urban front lines. |

Guess who this is?! If ... (Aug 10 2003 00:52 GMT) - Guess who this is?! If you guessed Charles you win the prize. We met at Uncommon Grounds (obviously a java joint) and had a great two hour conversation. I think it's safe to say (at least from my viewpoint) that we hit it off big time. Meeting a fellow blog buddy is interesting - one's entire relationship prior to meeting has been developed via blogs, blog comments, and the occasional e-mail. |

My hiatus -- beginnings and ends (Aug 10 2003 00:51 GMT) - Must say that being away this long from writing feels very awkward. I feel like my spontaneity has been spoiled and my usually very fluid words have been stagnated. I had no intentions whatsoever to write again but it felt like my writing, as a passion, has some sort of longing for itself. I have alot of catching up to do with regards to this journal and I intend to bring it up to speed with cap ... |
