Helpline Comment (22945) (Aug 10 2003 07:47 GMT) - I do have a question about a Tandy 1000 SL computer I picked up yesterday (literally, it was on the roadside...) When I boot it up, I get the message "i/o error at 378h" almost immediately, and the machine freezes right there. From what I've read on other sites, the error is caused by the printer being hooked up but not turned on, or the printer cable being hooked up backward. Well, I don't have a printer at all, and I can't see any way to change anything on the motherboard in the area of the printer connection. Any ideas out there? |

fuck the people (Aug 10 2003 07:45 GMT) - i'm slowly bumping things around on waferbaby 1 to match parts of the new site, hopefully making the shift a little bit smoother (for me, for you, for your mother). i hung out with kurt, chelle and alex last night, which meant music, dvd watching, chit chat, food (for them), and good fun. and i'm trying to convince mister holden to play in tomorrow's game. of course, none of that has anything to do with the above screenshot whatsoever (an emulated system 7.01 running on the tibook via basilisk and a rip of the iivx's rom). |

Details of the charges against Gay Bishop (Aug 10 2003 07:45 GMT) - It was big news last week when the Episcopalians confirmed the first openly gay Bishop. At the last minute, there were some "last gasp" accusations made about him. This link gives the official details of the investigation. All I can say is, if that was all the dirt his enemies could find on him, then he is a far better man than I. |

In an interview with the San Diego Union-Tribune, Marine Corps Maj-Gen Jim Amos confirmed that napalm was used on several occasions in the war. |

David Block @ 08/09/2003 10:22 PM (Aug 10 2003 07:43 GMT) - Yes, Chris, your point is well taken. But the forensic evidence is very disturbing, and hard to ignore. On the other hand, how did they teach this look-a-like to play a mean left-handed bass and sing like him too? On the other hand, I have seen Beatlemania... I wonder if anyone has analyzed the voice prints.... |

Climbing Mount Adams for Skiiers and Snowboarders (Aug 10 2003 07:39 GMT) - If you've done Mt St Helens and you're looking to challenge yourself a little bit more, consider tackling the southern slopes of Mt Adams. Rising over 12,000 feet, it's the second highest peak in Washington and offers up some spectacular views & serious amounts of vertical- but without the danger of crevasses. During the day, there are views of Mt Hood & Mt St Helens, and at night, the night lights of Trout Lake and the communities along the Columbia River Gorge light up the distance. |

Arianna Huffington for Governor (Aug 10 2003 07:37 GMT) - This is my formal endorsement - and even though everytime I have showed up to vote - it's triggered jury duty - I will once again participate in a system so corrupt and dis-honest - that it makes Microsoft look like a bunch of angels. But Arianna's cool. |

Paul Graham: Filters that Fight Back (Aug 10 2003 07:35 GMT) - I hopped over to Paul Graham's site in (vain) hopes of seeing something about Arc. Instead I found his new article on antispam filters, Filters that Fight Back. Basically the idea is to turn spam messages into a Denial of Service attack against spammers by making spam filters pound any URL's embedded in messages determined to be spam. I love it. I wonder how long it will take for someone to write a Thunderbird extension to do this. |
