(Aug 10 2003 10:54 GMT) - British police told to 'shoot to kill' Amid intelligence warnings that an al-Qaeda suicide attack in Britain may be imminent, armed police are under orders to 'shoot to kill' if they encounter a suicide bomber. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir John Stevens has placed the police on the highest alert. One senior officer said: "He's made it plain that if we think we are facing a suicide bomber, we should shoot first and ask questions later." Police officers in the UK are normally unarmed, but hundreds of armed police officers are now patrolling London. |
