good in-ear headphones (Aug 11 2003 02:57 GMT) - the shure e2c looks like a nice set of in-ear headphones. i had been trying to dig up the link for them for a while since noticing a mention a long time ago on joi ito's blog but then not remembering where i saw the link, or who made the headphones.the one thing that makes me a little hesitant to pick up a pair (besides the price) is that i'm not sure i really want something with that much sound-isolation. |

Guesting In The Guestroom (Aug 11 2003 02:55 GMT) - It's beginning: the baby's starting to move stuff around and it's not scheduled to make an appearance for another few months. Fortunately, this is not happening in a Linda Blair kind of way, but what has been my home office soon will become the nursery, and before then its roof will get ripped off and a new room (the office-to-be) will be plunked on top. Today I finally got around to moving key office material to the guestroom in anticipation of the pitter-pat of little work boots. There's an adjacent Fibber McGee's closet, full of mostly old tech wreckage, that eventually will have to be cleared out before the arrival of You Know Who. |

Antigay Groups Cook the Data on Gay Domestic Violence (Aug 11 2003 02:53 GMT) - In March 2001, Gary Glenn of the American Family Association of Michigan declared that upwards of 50 percent of gay relationships are beset by domestic violence -- and that, each year, 650,000 incidents of same-sex domestic violence occur. In order to find that statistic, Glenn overlooked 12 years of detailed research finding that the gay domestic violence rate is about 21 to 25 percent. Instead, Glenn cited a 1991 book, "Men Who Beat The Men Who Love Them: Battered Gay Men and Domestic Violence," by Patrick Letellier and David Island. The book was written before any research on the subject had been done, and the authors conjectured that, since men might be more prone to violence than women, putting two men together might result in a higher rate of domestic violence -- somewhere between 350,000 and 650,000 cases, they guessed. |
