Broken things and dud software (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - In addition to an extreme bout of clumsiness - which almost resulted in me tumbling down the stairs backward this evening (and hey before anyone says it - I was sober - dead sober - not a drop of alcohol in my system) - I had to bloody well rebuild Lu's PC again. This time the bloody thing did some weird slow to crawl thing and then started spewing Event Log messages like crazy saying the hard disk was failing. Needless to say in true M$ Windows fashion testing of the disk revealed... |

Clumsy Love (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - My inherent inability to achieve anything resembling balance and co-ordination is often commented on. Usually loudly by people I am dancing with who tell me to get the fuck off their toes. Or wanting to know why I think dancing salsa involves re-enacting the mosh pit at a Tool concert. But since an early age I've been that guy who stands there looking confused when someone yells 'Catch' or manages to plow the person I am walking down the street with into a wall because I am not... |

Almost there (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - Just got all the templates to XHTML and CSS validate. Wasn't bloody easy. Now just need to finish the install documents and it's able to go live. So either tomorrow or the next day I'd say. Yay me. |

Commented Out (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - I re-enabled commenting on entries. Just a minor website update - no massive redesigns - all designed out after the template site (one template to go and the install.html document to finish) and it'll be live. So sometime in the next day or so I'd guess. |

Free the West Memphis Three (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - Went to see Rollins Band playing the music of Black Flag last night. Was a fine gig. Henry was on fire. The angry old man he can be when he gets worked up. The gig was in support of the West Memphis Three - whose story you all should go and read and if you can make a donation to help their defense fund. |

Meander meander ... stupid drunken meander (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - Been so flat out this week this is the first chance I've had to sit down and think. Been incredibly stressed which has increased my alcohol intake which is making me feel distinctly like crap. I should recognise the bloody trigger factors by now and try to compensate but I don't because I have the willpower of a newt. Alcoholic. Ugly word, ugly concept. |

Further dull updates (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - Well more work done on the pMachine templates site - it'll be at pmtemplate.kartar.net when it's done (nothing there yet) - just arranged for another MySQL database to be installed and activated the sub-domain. So I have got one and a half templates to complete and the install instructions to finish writing and work out the best way to set up trackback/pingbacks. Should be finished hopefully sometime this weekend. |

Updates (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - Meandering along - doing business simulations for a new ERP implementation. Going suspiciously well for this sort of thing. Also trying to build up an Outlook template for a call logging system. Not very successfully so far. The template count : |

Moving pains (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - Stressed. Moving all the breakable 'don't want the movers to touch' stuff and trying to get some work and other activities done at the same time. So far moving stuff is going fine but I have a fair bit of work to catch up on when it's all done. I also wanted to make a dent in the pMachine templates I have been thinking off - currently have the base site, the site structure and selected the templates I want to display. I just started the first template - 2 column, left menu. |

Rio Gets Back In The Game (Aug 11 2003 17:15 GMT) - Rio--makers of the first hardware mp3 player--are back with some interesting new models. After changing hands a number of times, the Rio brand has added a few new devices to their line and they look like they're ready to give iPod some serious competition. The Nitrus holds 1.5 gigs f music and is ultra-tiny, while the Karma holds 20 gigs of mp3s and has an ethernet port while still slick-looking and smaller than the iPod. |

School officials unhappy with their grades (Aug 11 2003 17:15 GMT) - This report in the Daily Mail makes the startling revelation that schools branded "in need of improvement" under the No Child Left Behind Act feel they are being "stigmatized." According to the report, teachers and principals "worry that having the 'in need of improvement' label slapped on their school could be a deterrent to parents who may look to private schools or to sending their children to a school out of their area."No kidding. Isn't that the whole idea? Schools that are underperforming for multiple years are labeled "in need of improvement," and parents are given the option of transferring their children to higher-performing schools in the area or seeking other supplemental educational services. |
