Macromedia FlashPaper (Aug 11 2003 17:54 GMT) - Macromedia FlashPaper is basically a PDF substitute, using Flash and therefore able to display within a web page. Some fairly serious limitations, though: "FlashPaper documents can only be viewed in a web page, so you can’t email FlashPaper documents directly to others. The text in FlashPaper documents cannot be searched or selected by website visitors." Still, I really like the combination of being able to view the document within a web page and being able to print it from there, all without having to launch a helper app. |

The Importance of Not Thinking Too Much (Aug 11 2003 17:52 GMT) - I've always known the idea that we are stupid for a reason or that there is some utility to the "virtues of carelessness and inattention" had its uses among right-wingers and John Derbyshire confirms this. His thesis: the institution of marriage cannot withstand being thunk into the ground or "deconstruc... [full item | link] |

Watching crap splatter (Aug 11 2003 17:48 GMT) - We have to watch so much crap make millions, it's nice now and then to watch crap splatter. I have not seen Gigli, nor do I intend to, but I have seen both its awful stars, and I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that it's 3% Rotten Tomatoes rating (among cream of the crop) is justified. From boxofficeguru (try to ignore the writing style): Sony's Ben-and-Jen pic Gigli experienced what could be the worst second-weekend fall in history collapsing 83% to a pitiful $640,000, according to estimates. |
