The Nitrus holds 1.5 gigs f music and is ultra-tiny, while the Karma holds 20 gigs of mp3s and has an ethernet port while still slick-looking and smaller than the iPod. |

Everybody TANGO! (Aug 11 2003 17:19 GMT) - Finally, this is the car I've been waiting for, lo, these many years! Now if they can just get the cost down to a tenth of what they're asking for the initial models, count me in! |

Inventing a Hero (Aug 11 2003 17:19 GMT) - A book review of the controversial book which exposes forgeries, methodology mistakes and questionable practice of some historians in the Philippines. An excellent read. But be sure to research on the response of Dr. Ileto, of Cornell University, one of the Historians accused of the ill practice. |

Fraudulent History (Aug 11 2003 17:19 GMT) - This is the fraudulent Code of Kalantiaw which first appeared in Ancient Legends of the Island of Negros, Philippines (volume 1, chapter 9), a book ascribed to a ficticious friar named José María Pavon but was actually a forgery by José E. Marco (1877?-1963) who claimed to have discovered it in 1913. Almost nobody questioned the authenticity of the Code for over 50 years until historian William Henry Scott exposed it and many other historical frauds in 1968. Unfortunately, it is still thought to be true in many circles today. |

Camera 'sees through fog' (Aug 11 2003 17:19 GMT) - The Dmist technology can also be used to provide clear pictures taken through heavy rain and haze and can also be used underwater. Researchers at UMIST university believe it could soon be commonplace at airports, motorways or TV outside broadcasts and could improve security surveillance. |

stront in de ventilator [rechtsbuiten] (Aug 11 2003 17:19 GMT) - In deze warme weken bij de ventilator schiet mij de Amerikaanse uitdrukking "When the shit hits the fan" ineens in gedachten. Dan denk ik daarna: heeft iemand dat eigenlijk wel eens uitgeprobeerd? |

Notes on Clumsy Love 2 (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - I have gone back and changed some of the names of the characters because - well - one of the characters stumbled across my site through Google and went 'I know who this is and I remember that' and would prefer it this way. Clumsy Love 4 - available soon in 'names changed to protect the guilty' mode! |

Franti at Radio Skid Row (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - Went to the 20th Anniversary of Radio Skid Row at the Addison Rd Community Centre yesterday. They had comedy, food and live music - including the awesome Michael Franti - who took time out from his tour to come along and support the station. Franti gave an incredible performance - a couple of times during the performance I think half the people in the hall were in tears. It was a really powerful event that... |

Balm in Gilead, Group Theatre (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - We went to see this tonight. As the SMH said - a challenging piece of theatre but uneven performances - a couple of outstanding exceptions but generally a powerful concept that was poorly executed. Placing it at the Imperial performance space was brilliant though - it's usually the home of drag shows and fucked up gay clubbers trying to eke a last drop out of their night out before the... |

Clumsy Love - Part Three - From little things... (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - Having laid eyes on A I wanted to meet her. I think the first coherent sentence out of my mouth after seeing A on the dance floor was the highly intelligent, Cave man-esque statement "She's pretty" to Im. I think I was one step from abbreviating even that to merely "pretty..." and from there only droll and scraping knuckles would have stood between me and total de-evolution. After my attempt to point out my approval of her appearance I think I stuttered something... |

Nothing ventured, nothing gained - a twofold post (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - Someone I know is doing something both really emotionally brave and emotionally dangerous and starting a new relationship. She is doing it for one of the traditional reasons (indeed one of my favourite reasons too) because she is in love with the fellow. She's been down the path before - indeed been down the path before with the same boy - and been badly hurt exploring it. But she's a brave and determined woman and wants to make it work. So kudos to her and I'm proud of her for being... |

Clumsy Love Part Two - Meetings (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - Of the three most vivid memories I have of A - two of them involve someone vomiting. I suppose I should assume that this is probably true of a lot of relationships at the age we were. We were both certainly not straight-edge kiddies. We both drank and partied pretty hard. I suppose knowing more about myself and more about human behaviour now I realise we both suffered from depression - undoubtedly not assisted by excessive consumption of beer and spirits - and both struggled to manage... |

Notes on Clumsy Love (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - When I first started writing Clumsy Love it had an element of humour attached to it. It doesn't now. It got me thinking - and all of those cringe-ful moments in that relationship came back to me - I have spent the last two days thinking about things that happened and going 'ouch' every 15 minutes. Which has not improved my mood. But I have started Part Two. |

Clumsy Love Part One - In the Beginning (Aug 11 2003 17:17 GMT) - Probably the first time I proved how uncoordinated I was in both life and love was when I met Im and A. I was in my first year at University when I met them. I had taken a very pretentious first year English subject which was designed to lure unsuspecting first year students into the morass of cultural studies and post-modernity and thereafter be lost in the belly of the beast - a rough beast that called itself the English Department. A monster that ate students alive with a side... |
