VMTU - Make your internet connection faster FREE (Aug 12 2003 02:57 GMT) - Variable Maximum Transfer Unit, or VMTU is an algorithm for negotiating the packet sizes passed from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to your Internet TCP connection. Simply download, install, run and let VMTU do all the work for you. It's a Beta, but well worth taking a look at. (Kevin Christley) |

2D Direct3D Programming (Aug 12 2003 02:55 GMT) - When Microsoft dropped support for DirectDraw in the new releases of DirectX I stopped working with the API as much as I was. Mainly because I do not have the tools, or the skills to create decent 3D Models, or textures. That is why I worked with 2D in the first place. Thankfully GameDev.net has just released an article on how to write a 2D game engine using Direct3D. |

immer wieder amuesant: (Aug 12 2003 02:55 GMT) - I was in Costco yesterday. They do things a bit differently; they pile books on tables, so that multiple stacks of a book are visible, and you can see several covers of the same book. I was looking over the books, when my eyes were brutally assaulted by at least eight or nine covers featuring psychotic attack harpy Ann Coulter and her latest stinking chunk of offal. That was unacceptable; |

Architecting with the Tablet PC (Aug 12 2003 02:54 GMT) - My brother, an architect, got a Tablet PC recently. What's amazing about this is that he's never one to jump first at anything. He's very cautious. So he's a bit frustrated with the few bumps he's encountered in the "Tablet PC Early Adopter Land." He installed AutoCAD 2004 and he's found that it really needs the keyboard since there are lots of keyboard shortcuts and some annoying bugs, eh, I mean features that require the keyboard to workaround : |

DVD X Copy XPress Review (Aug 12 2003 02:53 GMT) - Everyone has probably heard of DVD X Copy from 321 Studios. They have a new product out called DVD X Copy Xpress which is just what the doctor ordered. Not only is it dummy proof (add DVD blank, add original DVD movie, click COPY button, wait until blank ejects and copy is completed), it copies the DVD movie onto ONE DVD. (Kevin Christley) |
