times of change. (Aug 12 2003 04:59 GMT) - After three long, hard years, my younger brother John left for Korea this morning. He will be staying with our father for the time being, until Pops decides whether John is better off staying in Korea for college, or coming... |

CNN Comedian Lou Dobbs said ... (Aug 12 2003 04:59 GMT) - CNN Comedian Lou Dobbs said tonight that 50-some soldiers had died in Iraq since Bush's "Mission Accomplished" speech. Not true. Over 100 have died. A little less than 60 were killed in combat. Is it Lou-the-Liar, Lou-the-Dimwit, or a mistake that Lou will correct? |

I Suppose We Should Have Seen This Coming (Aug 12 2003 04:58 GMT) - I Suppose We Should Have Seen This Coming Reported in the Mercury. A JEWISH civil rights organisation in the US expressed concern today that Mel Gibson's film The Passion will fuel anti-Semitism by reinforcing a belief that Jews were guilty of Jesus' death. I'm not surprised. Any movie that is faithful to Scripture pretty much has to portray the Jewish people of Christ's time negatively. |

Sun-Times Sensibility (Aug 12 2003 04:58 GMT) - Today's Chicago Sun-Times editorials provide a wealth of good thinking. The first notes that a California-style recall statute is no way to run a state. (No kidding. Although I would not mind a recall so much if it required cause... |

Blogger News Item (Aug 12 2003 04:55 GMT) - WHO IS YOUR DADDY AND WHAT DOES HE DO? In discussing Arnold Schwarzenegger's run for California governor, a friend suggested that at the very least, Schwarzenegger would be in a strong position to demand that U.S. companies keep jobs in the state and stop offshore outsourcing. I don't know what Schwarzenegger's views are on the subject, but I do know that given half the chance, the entertainment industry would much rather shoot pictures up in Canada. |

Blogger News Item (Aug 12 2003 04:55 GMT) - Those burritos do have bite. A judge has ruled in favor of a man's claim that he had alcohol on his breath not because he drank, but due to his eating of burritos made with beer-and-tequila marinated meat. [More] |

Blogger News Item (Aug 12 2003 04:55 GMT) - Teddy's little research project... I give researchers a hard time on this web site (actually, it's 'government' researchers who are the target), but now some hippie throwback comes up with a good one. It seems that the Unabomber wants his bombs, chemicals and books returned. The feds seized them when they arrested him for killing people. Teddy says he wants them to do "research. |

Because at this early stage they are irrelevant and only pencil geeks and pundits are paying attention (or as Time calls them: boutique audiences). |

Arnold "Gropenator" went to Kenny ... (Aug 12 2003 04:55 GMT) - Arnold "Gropenator" went to Kenny Boy's meeting about how to prolong the highway robbery of the so-called California Energy Crisis. Bush and Cheney's cronies stole BILLIONS of dollars -- one guy at Enron stole half a billion dollars in one day. And there's the Gropenator at the May 11, 2001 meeting. We're pretty sure he wasn't groping Kenny Boy. The easy answer is that the Gropenator is in bed with the Bushes -- just another vile, power-greedy corporatist, not so dumb as Junior, but that's not saying much. |
