Did Old Masters trace their most famous paintings? (Aug 12 2003 05:58 GMT) - Ever go to the Louvre and wonder how the hell Caravaggio made his faces so crazily lifelike? A controversial book suggests that the Old Masters were quietly getting some technological help on the side. Artist David Hockney has a new book -- Secret Knowledge -- that claims da Vinci and his contemporaries were using camera obscuras and mirrors to project their real-life subjects onto the canvas, and then simply tracing the images. Does anyone own a Segway? (Aug 12 2003 05:57 GMT) - Okay. I've got a bottle of Oban scotch sitting here on my desk. It's very nice stuff -- not too peaty, but with enough bite to make it tasty. It's a reasonably expensive scotch, probably about $50 a bottle. I love Oban, would prefer to drink this bottle myself. |

Efficient. Eff-fis-cee-ent. Efficient. (Aug 12 2003 05:51 GMT) - Transmeta's new mobile chip has the terrible name of Efficeon. Weird: not even one single bit of information at the Transmeta site. However, for some kind of reason I have a hard time saying that word. They should have kept it easier for foreigners like me and called it 'TMS 8000'. |
