Things look bleak for Mickey and friends (Aug 12 2003 12:57 GMT) - Herbivorgasmic uncovered a secret plot by a group known as some scientists to convert mice into antibody factories. While I've seen a few articles about using eggs to create pharmaceuticals, which would make the chickens into factories (more so than usual), I think that this is the first time that I've seen a story about turning an actual living being into a drug (or drug-like product, as antibodies are used for research and testing). I can never get over how stuff like this goes on around the world and yet everyone cheers on the humans in The Matrix as they fight against their machine overlords. In related mouse news, VeganXing pointed out that another faction going under the scientist tag (whoever they are, these guys are much more organized than the ALF and ELF!) has succeeded in transplanting a mouse's uterus into another mouse. |

Faceted Classification with MovableType (Aug 12 2003 12:54 GMT) - Tanya has posted a rather ingenious solution for creating a faceted classification system for posts in MovableType. This gets around the built-in functionality of MT that only allows one level of categories. I love this closing line from her entry: This is additional evidence to back up my observation that most problems in life can be solved with the creative use of regular expressions. |

Death of the Marketing E-mail Signature (Aug 12 2003 12:54 GMT) - I'm having more issues with important e-mail getting caught in our corporate spam filter. In almost all cases they are messages from vendors that contain a signature block with a marketing message of some sort. I think these types of messages are doomed from now on. Imperfect spam filtering is a fact of life for the time being. Due to that, people will have to learn how to craft their messages in a way that does not trigger them if they want to communicate via e-mail. |
