Down in Flames! (Aug 13 2003 00:50 GMT) - I submitted a horrible post from way back in May to Wizbang's Bonfire of the Vanities, and Kevin was kind enough to accept my worst. Go and read everyone's shame - all on one page!... |

A Challenge To Iranian Hardliners (Aug 13 2003 00:50 GMT) - Here is the story: Iran's reformist interior minister ordered the closure of offices set up by hard-liners to screen candidates for next year's legislative elections. Members of the hard-line Guardian Council have vowed to reject reformist candidates who seek major... |

New Clancy novel (Aug 13 2003 00:50 GMT) - In his last few novels, bestselling author Tom Clancy has suffered from what many called verbal diarrhea. He also seemed to have run out of steam with Jack Ryan, going back to tell a tale from the early days in his last book. With The Teeth of the Tiger, just out, Clancy looks to have reinvented his career: the novel is less than 500 pages and, though it works within the established milieu, focuses on a new cast of characters. |

iTV comes to India before USA (Aug 13 2003 00:49 GMT) - Its kind of ironic that we have iTV deployment in India before USA. Accroding to Indiantelevision dot com's article, the sunscriber base 4 million currently and will include pay per view, MHP applicaiton, upgradeable stbs by remote control and etc. It has both analog and digital headends to make sure boht legacy sets and new sets can view content. There is alos a MS polling component of end users thus they must be running J2ME in the STBs that the end users use. One of the future phases is also to provide internet access so they are going for the full iTV implementation. |

ahhh crap. (Aug 13 2003 00:49 GMT) - Last night was not a good night. I decided to reformat the Powerbook and downgrade it to Jaguar (OS X 10.2) and ended up having some problems with the OS X discs recognizing the hard drive. Essentially, when the installers went to scan for the available disks it would sit endlessly (well, for as long as I let it) without... |

Purge feature (Aug 13 2003 00:48 GMT) - Please ignore if this request has been posted previously, but I'd like to request the following feature for a purging function. I'd like to see a purge feature that could be configured per news feed. The feature would include the option to auto-delete things older than "n" days, or to auto-delete after you have "m" items. That way, NG would automatically purge items that may no longer be of use to me. A good example would be news feeds from an online paper. |

And yet: "The fast-food chain sells an hour of wireless access for $4.95, while a continuous 24-hour connection is $7.95. |

White House asks Van ... (Aug 13 2003 00:46 GMT) - White House asks Van Impe about Middle East future If Bush is really letting superstitious belief in Bible prophecies affect US policy in the Middle East, as some have asserted, it is tragic and dangerous. I have not, however, seen anything in his actual decisions to indicate this is the case. However, fundie nut Jack Van Impe certainly wants his readers to believe he has government interest in his ridiculous interpretations of Biblical apocalyptics: I am not sure whether he [Bush] knows all of the prophecies and how deep of a student he has been in God's Word, but I was contacted a few weeks ago by the Office of Public Liaison for the White House and by the National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice to make an outline. |
