Israel's WMD program (Aug 13 2003 02:32 GMT) - Israel declared over the weekend that it is cutting off ties with the BBC to protest a repeat broadcast of a documentary about non-conventional weapons said to be in Israel. The program was broadcast for the first time in March in Britain, and was rerun Saturday on a BBC channel that is aired all over the world. The boycott decision was made by Israel's public relations forum, made up of representatives from the Prime Minister's Office, the Foreign Ministry and the Government Press Office. It was decided that government offices won't assist BBC producers and reporters, that Israeli officials will not give interviews to the British network, and that the Government Press Office will make it difficult for BBC employees to get press cards and work visas in Israel. Before the broadcast Saturday, Israeli officials tried to pressure the BBC to cancel the broadcast, saying that the program was biased and presented Israel as an evil dictatorship. |

Monday 11th August 2003 (Aug 13 2003 02:31 GMT) - Despite my still painful leg (it actually only hurts when I stand still bizarrely) I went for an 8 mile walk with my brother and niece up a great big hill. Like building patios this has been the kind of thing I have been lacking in the last few months of constant writing (and trying to write). It's a much better work-out than even anything Nelson could devise (I mean my personal trainer, not the historical figure for any non-regulars. |

I am going camping. I feel I am unlikely to feature in the pages of Hello magazine in the near future. |

When all else fails (Aug 13 2003 02:31 GMT) - Generally I don't expect to see the phrase "heavy vaginal bleeding" on a subway ad. But I guess subway commuters make a good target market for drugs. Seeing that the folks selling street drugs can't buy advertising, us strap hangers are left with reading ads for prescription drug companies. In some of the not-fine-enough-print are some real delightful possible side effects. The ad in this case was for a "morning after" pill, a pill a woman can take as an emergency contraceptive. |
