Processing the Blog... (Aug 13 2003 03:59 GMT) - Have you ever stopped to really think about the blogging process? I mean, really analyze the process? It's pretty interesting when you do. I've been thinking of all the factors and how they effect my blog lately, which is why I want to redesign and change things around - and at the same time I don't. Change can be very good - and sometimes it can be bad. |

Penguin Road Patrol (Aug 13 2003 03:59 GMT) - Meet the penguin road patrol... Until then the survey, which covers half of the state's 22,000-km road network each year, had been done by a two-man team driving at 20kmph, with the driver calling out the defects and the passenger jotting things down. It was an arduous procedure that took a long time, posed dangers to other traffic and pretty expensive to boot. Viner used a video camera and an Apple Macintosh to convince VicRoads that video footage would provide pictures of sufficient resolution for VicRoads to be able to diagnose things such as ride comfort, rutting, and stone texture.... |

Franken Fires Back At Fox (Aug 13 2003 03:58 GMT) - Humorist Al Franken fought back against Fox News Network Tuesday over a lawsuit it filed claiming he infringed on its "fair and balanced" trademark by using the phrase on the cover of his upcoming book. "As far as the personal attacks go, when I read 'intoxicated or deranged' and 'shrill and unstable' in their complaint, I thought for a moment I was a Fox commentator." |

The Partisan Whine (Aug 13 2003 03:56 GMT) - E.J. Dionne reminds us that just a few short years ago the Republicans were the ones repeatedly condemning the sitting president for his foreign policy. Dionne is left to point out what should be obvious: It is not at all... |

Mars Rovers Receive Brain Transplant (Aug 13 2003 03:55 GMT) - A Wired article says that Nasa needs to swap out some brains on the Martian rovers. Nasa will toss out some software commands that are no longer needed and replace it with some more smarts to make up for a spectrometer that has already gone bad. The brain transplant will take a long time to do because it's being transmitted at the blazing rate of about 0.5k bps (for reference, your regular phone modem these days communicates at 48k to 56k baud or about 100 times faster). Other than that the Nasa... |

quickies (Aug 13 2003 03:54 GMT) - Lots of chatter about msblaster worm on the ntbugtraq list. (disapointed to see server 2003 on the affected list) Installed POPFile a week ago, already its upto 94% accuracy in spotting spam, I've been impressed with it so far. the browse database/lookup tools for c++ in vs 2003 suck big time, how can i hack the vastly better vc6 browse database back into vs2003. Or even better just take the vc7.1 compiler/linker and drop it into the vc6 ide. |
